Album Notes

Jeff Skorik is in a class all his own. Originally from the midwest. he made the move to Nashville, TN over 15 years ago after a brief stint in New York City. Jeff formed the acclaimed power pop trio “The Excuses” in the early 90’s. His first solo effort, “Another Day Down”, was released in 2000 and received rave reviews. The follow up CD, “Love Song” has just been released.

Skorik’s non-conformative ways regarding his music and the music business has been his compass throughout his career. The sound: a cross between blue-collar pop and slacker rock-n-roll. The message: self absorbed musical therapy. It’s not that Skorik is abandoning the listener; it’s more about bending their ear in hopes of finding some commonality in the struggles and successes of day to day living.

As reviewed by Peter Cooper of The Tennessean, “Skorik is the guy behind the counter; the guy whose motor stutters at the drive-through window; the ne'er do well friends figure could make something of himself if he'd ever get some focus. His [music] is ample evidence that Nashville's sidewalks and bar stools often hold more talent than its Music Row office buildings.”

As Jeff gears up to hit the road this summer in support of “love song” he claims his mission is clear cut…”keep it simple and keep it honest.” The very two ingredients crafted in his art-form that makes this artist standout in an industry that thrives on the exact opposite.

You don't know what I'm up against. Because it's full of, of, of things that are only correct because they're grammatical, but they're tough on the ear, you see. This is a very wearying one. It's unpleasant to read. Unrewarding. "Because Findus freeze the cod at sea, and then add a crumb-crisp" Ooh, "crumb-crisp coating." Ahh, that's tough, "crumb-crisp coating." I think, no, because of the way it's written, you need to break it up, because it's not, it's not as conversationally written. A great CD though...
