Album Notes

Jeff creates a superb uplifting electronic chillout sound and has been compared to Sigur Ros, Brian Eno, Enigma, Ryan Farish, Moby, Amethystium, Deep Forest, Eluvium, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, etc.

Jeff was born in London and grew up in Hertfordshire UK, where he discovered he had an ear for music following a school ‘Tone’ test. It was recommended he take up music lessons, so he decided to learn the drums!

After a couple of years he developed his own skills by teaching himself to play the guitar, this then developed into an interest for keyboards and synths. After a few years of experimentation, he decided the style of music that he wrote naturally was in the ‘Chillout’ genre, although his musical tastes and influences include a variety of artists from Pink Floyd, Genesis and Marillion to Moby, Boards of Canada and Jon Hopkins.

Jeff has always had a great passion for music.
'Chasing Shadows' is his ninth album release since 2002.

Excellent, Relaxing Electronica/Ambient CD!
author: Chris & the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
“Chasing Shadows” is a somewhat aptly titled ambient/electronic chillout album from UK artist Jeff Woodall, his ninth release since 2002. These fifteen compositions help set a calm, relaxed, introspective, and even meditative mood. Woodall’s experimental musical styling incorporates the piano, organ, electronic drums, and even the xylophone into his songs, but he relies heavily on the ambient sounds from his instrumental repertoire to create his music. “Chasing Shadows” is mostly an instrumental album with the occasional sound byte, and it is recorded crisply and near-flawlessly. The opening track, “Shapeless,” introduces the album well as it begins with a repetitive guitar lick, then incorporates the organ, then completes the progression with an electronic drum beat dubbed over the other two. “My Isolation” follows with a heavier dependence on the ambient sound and reminds the listener of the beautiful Icelandic compositions of Sigur Ros. Woodalls’s influences can also be found in “Erosion” and “Lunar Corona,” both of which sound like they are straight out of Radiohead’s “Kid A” or “Hail to the Thief.” Overall, “Chasing Shadows” is a pretty great album to be recommended to anyone looking for some new chillout electronica.
