Album Notes

Powerful, fierce, unsigned, these three musicians have an indie approach and a refreshing rock sound. The nine original tracks on Aphonic contain not only solid rock flavor, but jazz and folk influences.

Having hit the Boston scene while still in high school, Jem Static have become WERS 88.9 Coffeehouse's "most requested band", WBCN 2002 HS Battle of the Band Winners (of the 100+ bands entered), sold out the famous Cambridge Venue Club Passim, and put out two CDs - both recorded and promoted all on their own. Aphonic is the newest and most professional release from the band, a mature collection of nine intelligent and passionate songs.

According to a statement on the web site of Club Passim, "Last time these folks were here, it was to do a last minute fill-in show, and it sold out in a matter of days!!"

Each member of Jem Static is an accomplished musician, yet their distinctive personalities mesh to create not only unique and varied original compositions, but also remarkably entertaining performances.

Thoughtful, moody, sometimes cutting but always with aggressiveness and conviction, Jem Static promises a sound that lives on the edge while straddling the mainstream.

Jem Static is comprised of:
vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Shira Erlichman,
guitarist/bassist Jake Estner
and drummer/percussionist Jim Zaner.

Aphonic is astonishing!
author: Louis
Aphonic is truly a huge step for Jem Static. Breaking whatever restraints they had in their last album (there were very few) Aphonic is a breath of fresh air in a world of stale pop/rock. It is almost the lovechild of Folk Rock and Hard Rock, but is too profound to even be classified. Truly Aphonic is a gem in the current music industry and any reason why Jem Static isn't signed to a label is rediculous to the point of irresponsibility. The masses should and need to hear Aphonic.

great vocals and amazing lyrics that blow your mind
author: Alex
Rape(this secret) shows intelligent composition with the simple addition of the strings, but Aphonic also proves to be a fun rock album. The lyrics are thought provoking, confrontational, and poetic. A must have cd for all ages.

Wow - APHONIC is a breath of fresh air
author: Jen
In the era of crap-o-licious radio and tormenting one hit wonderbra wonders, a band like this is a rarity. Jem Static is exquisite, and APHONIC proves to be their best release yet. i first heard them on WERS and was blown away - direct lyrics, catchy melodies, intense style. Jem Static is: Literally, a jem amongst cold and all too predictable coals.
