The first release from this San Francisco singer/songwriter, "Get By" highlights Jen Faith's ability to blend poetic and insightful lyrics with subtle, understated, yet catchy melodies.
Jen's main musical influences are classic rock, folk (of the Suzanne Vega variety) and r&b, but she fits most comfortably in the "indie" or "alternative" genres, among artists like Ani Difranco, Elliot Smith, Liz Phair and Lois.
Jen Faith is a dynamic and talented artist, and "Get By" is a great CD (includes an insert with lyrics and creative self-portrait photographs!).
This professionally mixed and mastered CD would be a perfect addition to anybody's indie collection!

using our language out of courtesy, Faith drops into our mundane world
author: Terese Taylor
Everyday topics like purposeful haircuts, stretch
marks, uninvited affections, and microorganisms, weave
their way into deceptively sing-along-style guitar
melodies. laying on my side, she whispers in my ear,
“...you can’t hold it while I puke.” using our
language out of courtesy, faith drops into our mundane
world and puts the end of things in the middle and
then takes pictures of herself peeing. these pictures
are included.
who took classical guitar lessons, but quit? who puts
the title track last?
guitar and the occasional can o’ beans, bass, and
vocal effect comprise the technical minimalism of
this, her debut album. I listen to jen when I want a
friend around who’s a weirdo, who I understand even
less than myself. if you are an agent, just try and
corrupt her. a quiet heroine. stalk jen:

Textured like a peach, music like a bruise...
author: Nicolas Papaconstantinou
Got this CD today... By a woman called Jen Faith. Except that sometimes she doesn't sound like a woman... sometimes she sounds like an aggrieved teen. And sometimes she sounds like a hurting little girl. And often, like the abrupt friend who tells you what you need to hear, instead of what you want to hear.
This album felt the way my first PJ Harvey album felt. At first, I wasn't sure if I'd made a mistake. It sounded like someone singing songs to me in my bedroom, or round a fire, glitches and all. But halfway through, uncertainty turned to admiration. Faith does in her music what I dream of doing in my writing... she hurts and inspires at once, with sounds like a musical bruise... colourful, yet painful.
Although I'd like it if the next CD were longer. Like a dangerous, difficult, painful love affair, it's all over too quick.
