A beautiful collection of sparesely accompanied personal songs.
author: J Neo Marvin
Jen Faith has finally created a recording that captures the irresistible charm, quiet strength and pure talent that is so overwhelmingly evident in her live performances. With the support of Michael Walsh's simple yet subtle percussion, Jen shows herself to be a formidable song-crafter, weaving perfect musical structures from the sparsest fragments of sound and emotion. Behind the quiet exterior, there's a lot of power here. Songs like "Abyss", "Faultline" and "One More Song About You" will burrow into your subconscious and set up shop.
Jen's first album, Get By, was lovely, but almost too bare at times. On Sweet Freak, the songs are perfectly realized, with dynamic guitar/drums backing and a smattering of guest appearances that add just enough without getting in the way of Jen's compelling mixture of innocence and experience. Get it. It's gorgeous.
