JENKINS HOLLOW
A hot new artist on the Americana/Roots Rock market, Jenkins Hollow crafts songs that blend influences of rock, country, folk, pop, and blues. Their rocking live show features vocalist and blues guitarist Rose Manfre and her group of seasoned musicians and long-time friends.
Jenkins Hollow released its debut CD, “All the Scenery’s Changed”, on Adam Records in 2002. In 2005, songs from this CD were included on compilation CD’s released by American Fallout Records of Pennsylvania and ShutEye Records of Georgia, sparking new interest in the band (see discography page). Jenkins Hollow is currently recording its second CD, to be released in late 2006 or 2007.
Rose Manfre grew up in Mountain City, Tennessee, and began to play guitar at age 13. She fell in love with the instrument and it became her passion. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she met and married drummer Joe Manfre. They have written and played together ever since. Jenkins Hollow also includes their long-time friends and co-writers, guitarist Mikel Gehl and bassist Greg Poseno (who replaced founding bassist Bill Donovan). “Jenkins Hollow” is the name of the country road in Tennessee where Rose grew up on her family’s farm.
Members of Jenkins Hollow have appeared with many national acts such as 10,000 Maniacs and The Bodeans. Their histories in groups like Spitshine and Love Riot have resulted in loyal followings, numerous CD releases, local and national awards, extensive touring history and air play both on radio and in television and film soundtracks.
Long known for her confident, aggressive rock sound and attitude, Rose Manfre now draws on her early rural Tennessee upbringing for a soaring, clear vocal delivery and country-rock guitar riffs and solos. Influences of Lucinda Williams, Bonnie Raitt and Chrissie Hynde can be heard. Rose’s new songs are stories full of images of life in America.
Guitarist Mikel Gehl brings his unique acoustic playing style while adding some of his new songs and co-writing with Rose on others. His chordal arrangements always seem to bring an open-ended beauty to any song.
Drummer Joe Manfre brings his Ringo Starr-influenced rock style to the band, keeping it solid but not overdone, and bassist Greg Poseno brings movement to the songs with his walking bass lines. Their rock experience assures that this mix of blues and country will always totally rock as well.
On top of all that, all four members of the band are really good friends, and the fun of making music with our friends shows through in our performance.
