Jennifer Johnson is perhaps the original cornfield girl born and raised in the one-stop light town of Greentown, Indiana. In fact, at the ripe old age of eight years, Ms. Johnson was crowned "Champion Tree Climber of all Greentown and Howard County. Though she will never forget nor forsake her modest country girl beginnings, Jennifer has come a long way since those early arboreal antics.
After graduating from high school, Ms. Johnson exchanged cornfields for fir trees and spent a summer working for the U.S. Forest Service in Ketchikan, Alaska. She then signed on for a two- year term of service as an Americorps volunteer in Denver, Colorado. It was during her time in Americorps that Jennifer began to pursue her interest of music and songwriting. As an Americorps volunteer she lived on Lowry Air Force Base and used the old W.W.II era airplane hangars as her practice space for music and song. Ms. Johnson sang the national anthem for her Americorps graduation ceremony at the end of her volunteer service.
Three years ago Jennifer moved to her new home in Savannah, Georgia. There, she is finishing school and working on her music career; Ms. Johnson graduates in May 2003 from Armstrong Atlantic State University. Jennifer is active in the local music scene and attends various open-mics on a regular basis. She is the current host of monthly open-mic events at two separate Savannah Starbucks Coffee stores.
Ms. Johnson is also an active member of the Savannah Folk Music Society and has been a featured performer at the Society's monthly "First Friday" series. Jennifer has also performed as a featured artist in the past three annual Savannah Folk Music Festivals. Jennifer Johnson is also one of the founding members of "Talk That Talk," a music and poetry workshop for elementary and high school students.
Ms. Johnson recently released her second independent album entitled, "Within". The themes in the album range from the inherent struggles of fledgling artist-hood to the ethereal quest for knowledge of the human spirit. Some songs from the album pay direct homage to her humble, Indiana beginnings, while other songs are lullabies of love. She is a one- woman acoustic show. With her stories, her voice and guitar Jennifer Johnson will charm you with a quirky and engaging performance.
