Album Notes

Jenny Hill and Liquid Horn

"...verdant with melody, sparkling with textures, apulse with back-beats..."
Howard Mandel, Future Jazz, Down Beat, JazzTimes

Liquid Horn is a lively and lush mixture of jazz, Brazilian and latin grooves and the funky side of Brooklyn.
Led by saxophonist/composer Jenny Hill, this ensemble includes Curtis Fowlkes on trombone, John DiMartino on piano, Dave Phelps on guitar, Oswaldo Amorim on bass, Todd Isler on drums, Urbano Sanchez on percussion, and special guest Nilda Richards ("Sister Love") on spoken word.

Drawing on her years in the New York jazz scene and her touring and performing with acts such as reggae greats Maxi Priest, Dennis Brown, Toots and the Maytals, and Burning Spear, as well as soul and latin artists Corey Glover, Daniel Ponce, and MC Solaar, Jenny Hill presents a "rich sampling of funk, worldbeat, and latin styles, brought together by the common thread of Hill's identity as a mainstream jazz player."

Jenny Hill and Liquid Horn have performed at the Blue Note, the New Haven International Festival of Arts and Ideas, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Brooklyn's Ethical Cultural Society, the Urban League of Cincinnati's Gala 2000, and other New York venues.

Jenny was one of the featured artists in the July 2002 JAZZIZ Women in Jazz issue, and her newest CD's title track, Planet Sax, appears on the JAZZIZ subscriber CD.
Jenny is also active as a jazz educator and is featured in Practice Like The Pros by Sue Terry as well as in Rock and Roll Saxophone by John Laughter. During her tenure with the DIVA big band, she performed with jazz artists Nancy Wilson, Dianne Schuur, Clark Terry, Dave Brubeck, and Joe Williams.
Jenny has been the recipient of several honors including a National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Studies grant with Joe Lovano, winner of the JAZZIZ Woodwinds On Fire competition, and the Lennie Johnson Outstanding Musician scholarship from Berklee College. She has been a guest of the King of Morocco and performed at his palace in Agadir.
