Album Notes

The term "Jenny" has been used for many years for merry-go-rounds and stems back to the days when organs and carousels were steamed operated. "Old Timers" used to speak of them as a "Jenny", "Flying Horses", or "Spinning Jenny". These terms were popular for years, but now have been lost to time.
The particular machine heard on this recording is a Wurlitzer Style #103. A little wood trumpet organ with 41 keys, it plays from Style #125 paper rolls of music. Designed especially for miniature carousels, kiddie swings, and other amuseument rides, it holds its tone well and is not affected by sudden temperature changes. This #103 is loud enough for larger rides also. Small, but compact, it has exceptional volume for its size. It is easily transported and two men can carry the machine about. Built in an oak vaneered case, finished in dark golden oak with a paneled front handsomely decorated with landscape scenes.
Instrumentation: 5 wood basses; 9 wood accompaniment pipes; 14 wood violins; 14 wood flutes; 13 wood trumpets (on draw top). Dimensions: Height: 3' 6" ; Width: 3' 2"; Depth 2' 1" (including crank shaft extension). Weight: 235 pounds. This organ was one of the most popular Wurlitzer styles. Production was from 1923 to 1937.
Listen to the music and be transported to childhood again in fond memories.
