Album Notes

"Jennifer Yax's passionate and heartfelt writing, combined with her soulful, powerful voice, will go straight to your heart...[she is] hands down the best female vocalist I've heard anywhere." - Mayank Thanawala, Hookslide (Bay Area vocal band, CD Baby artist)

"mysterious and provocative..." - Janis Tate, Indie Music Explosion (NY, NY)

"Jennifer's beautiful voice and unique style bring an emotional depth to all of her songs." - Joan Martin, Producer/Songwriter

"Jennifer Yax has a voice which knocks you dead. True, full-bodied music positively rings from her lips." - Greenwich (CT) News

"My Turn" is the debut full-length release from award-winning, independent singer/songwriter Jennifer Yax. The album runs the gamut from exuberant ("Drive Again") to wistful ("No Sense of You"); rebellious ("My Turn") to hopeful ("If You Shrugged"); full of anger ("70 Steps") to drunk with love ("Tipsy").

"My Turn" has a definite pop sensibility, with a little bit of country, rock and folk. While centered around Jennifer's voice and acoustic guitar, each track has something different to offer - pedal steel, violin, piano, electric guitars, and more. With tracks produced by acclaimed Bay Area songwriter Bonnie Hayes (Bonnie Raitt, Huey Lewis, Bette Midler, among others) and Joan Martin (published songwriter, who co-wrote "My Turn"), the record's melodies and lyrics will stick with you.

In addition to her regular performances in a variety of Bay Area venues (among them Freight & Salvage, Tongue & Groove, Red Devil Lounge & iMusicast), Jennifer is an active touring artist, having toured recently on the East Coast and in the Southwest. Jennifer is an active member of the Northern California Songwriters Association (NCSA), winning multiple NCSA "Best Performance" awards. Her song "Drive Again" recently won an NCSA "Best Song" award and an Honorable Mention in their 2003 International Song Contest.

Jennifer, one of the "voices" of the Cornell Class Notes, hits an acoustic homer with this CD. Melodic, meaningful and spiritual. Reminds me of Joshua Kadison's "Painted Desert Serenade." Well done.
