Jeorge From Yard is a Jamaican native who brings lots of flavor, including dance, reggae, hip-hop and r&b.
Jeorge’s journey started as a songwriter in Jamaica before moving to Chicago, USA, and becoming interested in live entertainment. His first professional experience as an entertainer was with the Chicago based jazz-reggae band Oversoul, back in 1990. It was with Oversoul that Jeorge From Yard made his first recordings on their album, Chi-Town Reggae.
Since that time, he’s won the Best New Artist award at the prestigious Chicago Music Award, in 1995, and went on to perform regularly at the annual African/Caribbean International Festival of Life in Chicago, as well as at many nightclubs and festivals throughout the mid-west. Among the many luminous world music starts Jeorge has shared the stage with are Judy Mowatt, Mighty Sparrow, Tony Rebel, Black Uhuru, Mutubaruka and many others.
In 1996, with Oversoul, he scored cult success with the dance/reggae track Dance With Me,” from their cd Shockproof, which had wide distribution in Europe and Asia. Jeorge’s fist solo disc, Jeorge From Yard on Jolper Records, followed in 1997.
His latest album, Wishing, contains eleven tracks that reflects some of the experiences Jeorge has encountered on his journey through life and music. Wishing, like his first release, is distributed outside the U.S. by Tuff Gong Records, the legendary Jamaican firm founded by the late Bob Marley. In the summer of 2001, with the help of Tuff Gong, Jeorge had his first Caribbean hit single, Modern Slave Labor from Wishing.
Jeorge From Yard is currently working on his third album with two of Chicago’s finest producers, Kevin Patrick and Elvis Clarke of Studio Mix Sound. Singles from the sessions will be released soon.
