Water is an essential ingredient for not only our bodies, but the entire
planet. How is it that water has come to be honored?
Through centuries of human civilization, the artists of all cultures have
chosen to offer their understandings of the element by creating fountains.
With this knowledge, we may say that fountains are a living idealization of
a marriage between art and nature.
Feeling that these artworks can touch and unify people from all
backgrounds, pianist Jeremiah Bornfield has composed pieces in honor of
some of the world's great fountains. Each piece on the album Midnight
Fountain is named for the corresponding fountain which inspired the work
itself. From Asia through Europe to America, people of all cultures
share a love for our great landmarks.
Just as the water itself, let us celebrate this music as a universal
point from which to reflect our spirituality and also inspire our imaginations
to reach beyond ourselves, into freer cultures and viewpoints, into the
