Jeremiah and the Red Eyes * Red Eyed & Restless* Bull-Stud Records * Dec' 2004 Down and dirty, bluesy and fun. This is the music you love if you have any taste at all. Great blues and traditional roots rock, harkening back to the originators of the style, this is an excellent disc. I can easily imagine sitting down in a dark bar with these guys playing on the back deck somewhere. Excellent. (MK) http://www.impactpress.com

cd: Red Eyed & Restless ******
band: jeremiah & the red eye
This young California man with the allure of a south-american Indian (his origins?) has been working hard since 1990, from bars to dives, from encounters to experiences, and who has all the same made 3 discs, arrives suddenly with an original album, excessively exciting and even a little disturbing. Between minimalist country ballad, alternate rock and tortured blues, with a caressing or sliding guitar, acoustic or plugged in, the songwriter Jeremiah Samartano, who goes simply by his first name, practices a music pure, whose authenticity must have it's origins in his long years of wandering. His music, punk and traditional, coming out of nowhere if not far-away lands, is a sort of cross over whose references are at the same time from some founding fathers of the blues (Charley Patton, Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf for example) but also from another sphere, more alternative and rock: Paul Westerberg, ex-guitarist of the disbanded Replacements, and most of all a band of musicians based in Arizona at Cave Creek.
In spite of all this, the music remains rather faithful to the tradition of Delta Blues and this too-short (for me) album, recorded live in the studio with the bassist and producer (of this cd) Dale Warner, and drummer Jimmy Paxton, captures perfectly the spirit (wit/intelligence) of Jeremiah and his music. The singing is raw, mocking, the guitars rough, and the sound crude. It's magical and spellbinding, the type of thing that makes you vibrate... This artist has his sentiments "a fleur de peau" (note from translator: this means he is very sensitive, but I can't think of an idiomatic phrase in English to translate it), the talent to write, the truth at the end of his guitar and the sincerity of a real music. MAGIC!!
His objective from here forward: come to do a tour in Europe.
JEREMIAH AND THE RED EYES "Red Eyed & Restless" nov' 2004
I don't know what it is about this album that I just love, I haven't been able to put it to rest since I stuck it in my CD player a few weeks ago! The music is like a traveling country rock/blues style, but it has a sound reminiscent of bands like the Byrds, CCR, Gordon Lightfoot and a little bit of Elvis - that ballad versus country rock type of sound. All the songs have this really catchy strumming guitar and a nice floor tapping beat that you can "jive" to. There's a few cover tracks on here, but you barely notice that they're covers since they blend in so well with the rest of the album. I really enjoyed this album, it not only opened my eyes to a sound of music I haven't listened to for years, but also breathed fresh new life into my already exhausted CD play list! I think the only thing that I didn't like was that there were only 9 tracks on the album, I would have been happier with maybe 20 or so. Maybe JEREMIAH's next album will fill me up with an unlimited amount of rocking great music, I'll definitely be waiting for it. [Wednesday Elektra] http://www.spacejunkies.net/reviews.html
MUSIC COLUMN: "My Favorite Artists Of The Month" Part 2 By: Wednesday Elektra
Jeremiah & The Red Eyes, I think I enjoy and appreciate this artist more, because they're different. Jeremiah, doesn't fit into my stereotypical music collection of industrial, digital hardcore, electronics, heavy metal, hard rock, etc. in fact he's pretty much the complete opposite! I don't think there's one loud, harsh, electronic sound on his entire album ("Red Eyed & Restless"). I think every once in awhile you need an artist and album like this to come along, not only to break up your bad listening habits, but also to shed some light on other undiscovered genres of music!
BIO
Jeremiah Samartano started writing & playing music in the early
1990's in the Orange County coffee houses, clubs and bars close to his Huntington Beach home. By 1998 he was settled in Hollywood where he continued to play his music influenced by delta blues players Charley Patton, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, the raw , brilliant sounds of the Replacements, the lyrical, romantic, and often raucous sounds of the Pogues and Tom Waits.
In the fall of 2000 he set out on a five week coast to coast tour with friend and fellow songwriter Eddie Elliot, which was followed up with an eleven week tour in the spring of 2001 that was met with some success.
2002 saw the formation of a three piece band simply called, JEREMIAH, anchored by long time friend on bass "uncle " Dale Warner who had toured in the fall of 1985 as an opener for the legendary Minutemen and was a founding member of the Rubatos. In October of 2002 Jeremiah released a solo 10 song cd titled Songs From Anita. this was followed by several solo & trio gigs in and around the L.A. And Phoenix, AZ area.
Early 2003 Jeremiah made a brief but productive move to Cave Creek, AZ. Songs for the next solo project _Down All These Miles_ (many of which were written about his experiences while staying in Cave Creek) was recorded in jeremiah's bedroom on a digital 8-track back in L.A. and released in the fall of 2003. In August of 2003 Jeremiah and Uncle Dale went into a recording studio with session drummer Jimmy Paxton and put down 9 tracks live in one day.
winter & early spring of 2004: Originally this was to be a demo to send out for gigs but Dale told jeremiah he would put up the remaining money to see this project get the attention it deserved by going back to the studio and having jeremiah put guitar overdubs and redo some of the vocals on it. As a result "Red Eyed & Restless" captures the live, raw sound of the band now called Jeremiah & the Red Eyes.

I've listened to this cd so many times that my boy friend has gotten a bit jealo
author: SarahI've listened to this cd so many times that my boy friend has gotten a bit jealous. This band is very real to me and the cool thing is they're not trying to be in your face with a bunch of fancey blues riffs. They're definatly heart-felt. Maybe my bo has something to worry about after all...
This is by far one of the best cd's i've bought this year....
author: bEN CORRICKThis is by far one of the best cd's i've bought this year. In fact i order another 2 and sent them to some friends of mine in Alaska and Canada! This is the music i would prefer to hear on the radio any day over the s**t you hear on the radio now! Jeremiah WRITES some awsome lyrics and anyone who covers a Charley Patton song is ok by me. Besides it's a rockin version!!
Great CD
