Album Notes

Singer/Songwriter Jerri Little is a Gospel Soul innovator with a jazzy traditional style of singing, whose vocals intricately weave gospel music with a funky, contemporary & soulful thread. Jerri has shared the stage with various recording artists such as Marvin Sapp, The Pace Sisters, Donnie McClurkin, Albertina Walker, Darius Brooks, Percy Bady, Lemmie Battles, and Teddy Cross and has sung with well-known choirs, such as The Vernon Park Church of God Choir, Brenda Joyce Moore & United Praise, The Corinthian Temple COGIC Radio Choir, Progressive Life-Giving Word Cathedral Radio Choir and Victory Apostolic Church Vessels of Victory. She was featured in Lynette Hall-Parrott’s Christian play "Sista Girl Be Whole" and at various churches and well-known organizations, such as Apostolic Church of God, Liberty Baptist Church, The Black Caucus, AARC, and the SCLC. Jerri used to be a “regular” vocalist on the former “Saturday Nite Sing” but currently can be seen and heard on various church broadcasts, along with Sundays on WGN/Channel 9’s “Singsation!” hosted by the great philanthropist, Dr. Willie Wilson, for whom Jerri sings backup vocals. Jerri is also one of the very first independent gospel recording artists to premier on TLN's "Inspirational Sounds" and Gospel Music Channel's "Hometown Gospel (Chicago)", hosted by Joann Rosario, which features selections from Jerri’s cd, “Help Somebody Today – Live”, recorded on her label, TGB Records.

At age 5, Jerri’s vocal & lyric abilities were recognized and nurtured by her beloved mother (deceased). Jerri began her "ministry in song" at the age of 12 at her Tennessee hometown Baptist church. Shortly thereafter, singing alongside her mother and sister, they formed a trio and began singing locally. Soon they traveled statewide and Jerri’s gifted, transfixing vocalese became more apparent, which gave way to her soloist undertaking.

Upon moving to the Chicagoland area, Jerri's paternal grandparents (deceased) saw to it that her powerful and soul-stirring vocals were heard at various church functions. Her strong-willed grandfather was an inspiration to her as a philanthropist and encouraged her to always "help somebody", even if only through an uplifting song. And it became commonplace for her doting grandmother to pass notes to their church choir director requesting solos from Jerri. Soon after, Jerri began singing under the tutelage of well-noted choir directors and became a familiar voice heard around the city. Despite the tragic loss of her mother, a divorce, and the abrupt deaths only months apart of her grand "parents", Jerri attributes "by the Grace of the Lord, I've come a long ways". Jerri's favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13, serves as a testament of her faith and way of living as she quotes, "I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST THAT STRENGTHENETH ME." People continue to be blessed by Jerri’s colorfully acrobatic and spirit-filled vocals as Jerri remains faithful to God, forever proclaiming, “To God Be The Glory!”

Jerri Little has...a stunning voice and unquestioned charisma...!
author: Pat Ratliff, writer from Yo! Raps Magazine
Through a lifetime of singing with her local church choirs, singer/songwriter Jerri Little has honed her craft of singing the words of God. With Soul. The debut album from Jerri Little, Help Somebody Today – Live, is a great collection of gospel music with a side of funky soul. It’s hard to pin a genre on this album because she crosses so many lines, successfully. She’ll soothe you with her beautiful voice on one song, and have your body moving around the room on the next. Jerri Little has something special with this album. Aided by an excellent band and great backup vocals, Jerri Little holds it down on her debut album. Not only is Jerri a skilled singer, she also has the charisma to back it up on stage. She has the ability to serenade the listener with her beautiful voice alone, like on the track, “I Must Tell Jesus,” and she can also make you dance with a track such as, “In The Nick Of Time,” which has radio play written all over it. Her ability to shake things up from track to track while still maintaining her individual style is one of the things that make Jerri Little a unique musical talent. Throughout the album I was feeling the gospel soul, and you can even smell a little jazz coming through your speakers. I thought I had heard it all until I made it to the final track, “Wonderful, Mighty God,” where I couldn’t help but hear what sounded like Jamaican steel drums in the background. Jerri Little separates herself from the field with her ability to spread her work across the music spectrum, while still maintaining her musical theme, God. Jerri Little certainly has a good one with Help Somebody Today – Live. Jerri has the valuable combination of a stunning voice and unquestioned charisma. With that combination and the quality creative support around her, Jerri can take her music as far as she wants to. She sings with heart and soul, and she brings the truth about what she believes in. Couple that with her ability to sing unique jazzy soul gospel and you’ve got something special.
