Album Notes

Persuasions fans & music lovers everywhere have reason to be ecstatic. Jerry Lawson, lead singer of the legendary a cappella group is back and he still ain’t got no band. After leaving the Persuasions in 2003, Lawson announced that he was absolutely through with a cappella forever. Jazz combos and big bands beckoned. But on his way to Russia to record a solo album with the Moscow Philharmonic, (project pending) fate revealed other plans. Along came Talk of the Town, an a cappella group that had been wishing for years that they had a lead singer like Jerry Lawson ---really. Jerry has just finished what he regards as the masterpiece of his life--creating harmonies he long dreamed of, but could never realize. So remarkable was the chance meeting of Lawson and his new group that it was all filmed for a forthcoming documentary. The new CD, Jerry Lawson: Talk of the Town, features 20 stunning tracks (recorded on good ol’, warm analog) a few wonderful guests including Sean Altman former lead singer of Rockapella & Deke Sharon of The House Jacks. There's also a 20 page booklet of liner notes, song comments from Jerry and photos. Beautifully packaged and sure to become a collector's item. Lawson: from a cappella to a cappella The odds of it all happening are almost as good as winning the lottery.

The Real Deal

To have Jerry Lawson retired from a cappella is like having an ocean without waves, dogs without cats, orchestras with no violins. To have Jerry Lawson back in a cappella could be the solution to global warming. Lawson’s voice is now burnished and at its peak---the parallel is opera great Placido Domingo, on top of his game in his ‘60’s. To say that Talk of the Town “harmonizes” is like saying Picasso drew funny pictures. These San Francisco a cappella veterans have sewn, nailed, glued their voices into one multi-pitch monster. To hear Lawson on top of such a sound is like driving a Cadillac with a Rolls for a hood ornament.

"The tracks I’ve listened to by this group are immensely soulful and hearken back to the days when more soul music was more popular. Warm and compelling, with that certain passion that can only come from people who absolutely love the music that they are making. I have to say that after listening to this man sing, I now consider Jerry Lawson to be one of the the unsung heroes of acappella, soul and R&B.Few groups ever achieved this kind of rich harmony and complexity using only the human voice, it is just so dense and lush that it really makes the tracks sparkle with that little extra something."
