author: jonaco
I humbly admit to being a former "beautiful music" radio fan back in the '70s. If you ever wondered who was responsible for turning lite-pop hits into pretty but cheesy Muzak, you might credit/blame Jerry Ross. This Philly-based producer, the man behind dozens of '60s-lite hits (some from Holland), took everything from those Dutch
imports "Venus" and "Little Green Bag" to a little Philly soul and Latin pop, called it a "Symposium", and farmed everything out to the skilled German arranger/conductor Claus Ogerman. The result is a classic set of Muzak-ized "international" hits. If you, too, have a soft spot for this very retro sound, check this out- although I still don't know why he called it a "Symposium". Maybe "Wimp" was already taken?
