.... Julie comes from the state of New Jersey. The land of Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Zakk Wylde, Bill Evans and Count Basie; to which we may soon need to add this saxophonist singer to the list if she continues to create albums of this quality, but we're coming back to this topic soon.
Before settling in the South of France, Julie traveled around a lot with her duo "The Vagabonds" or accompanying musicians (was part of the band, played full concerts or sat-in for a song or two) with Derek Trucks, Tinsley Ellis, Lucky Peterson, the late Sean Castello or Mudcat, Drink Small, Robert Randolph, Cyril Neville. She has also lived in Chicago for 8 years from the age of 22, where she was first "indoctrinated and accepted" to the blues, but her musical influences do not stop with the blues. They go from jazz to folk to gospel, country, funk, bluegrass, and 50's rock and roll.
She founded the Jersey Julie Band in France, in 2011 with her guitarist husband, Olivier Mas, well known on the local scene that also includes the excellent Red Beans and Pepper Sauce (Julie also sang a track on the first album of Red Beans), and with Stéphane Blanc's bass can be heard on full recordings and latest releases, with his cousin Olivia Ruiz.
I wasn't too used to hearing a singer/saxophonist so I was really wondering what it was and what direction the album would take. Jazz? Rhythm 'n Blues? Rock'n'Roll "Springsteenien" (Ah the fiery sax of Clarence Clemons ..)? Funk? Well, it is best to give it a listen.. ...
"Don't Worry No More" (the title track) blew me away from the start .....
OK, pardon me and let me pull myself together (re-arrange my hair). I finished listening to this CD with a huge smile on my face... we can say that the JERSEY JULIE BAND has it all. With the guitar, sax, swing of the upright bass, of course the dynamique singing of Julie and in concert it is sure to be even better. This cocktail; at it's base is boogie, rock'n'roll, blues, jazz, soul; is good sparkling bubbly served by a group that blends so obviously well and does it with the palpable pleasure of playing and creating their own universe. Hotly and Highly Recommended

Goosebumps CD Review
Rated Coup de Coeur (More than 4 Stars)
The Jersey Julie Band is a trio formed in 2011 with Julie (singer saxophonist, percussionist) from Jersey (New Jersey native hence the name), and her husband/guitarist Olivier Mas and upright bassist Stéphane Blanc.
The trio creates in a style American Roots, Blues, Rockabilly, Country, Bluesgrass, .... this group
has an overflowing energy. Julie has a clear and powerful voice that is full of emotion. Her excellent singer guitarist husband blends perfectly in voice with Julie. As for Stéphane Blanc, he instills a sustained rhythm with his bass that makes you forget there is no drummer and he carries the trio into a dazzling groove. Some titles are composed by the trio with reprises of Son House, Carl Perkins ....
This record is a great surprise. Don't pass up the chance to be close to this little marvel. Goosebumps will give you goosebumps.

Review from Le Dauphiné Libéré by Stacy Gosselin
Discover Jersey Julie Band, a trio who departs with a fiery great energy and creates a contagious yet delicate groove of blues. The trio, Jersey Julie on saxophone and vocals, Olivier on guitar and vocals, and Stéphane on upright bass got the crowd swinging and their new album "Goosebumps" says it all!” Stacy Gosselin
Review from Blues Again Magazine by Gilles Blampain
This is a name that may not be entirely unknown. In the early 2000s, Jersey Julie became known in France as a saxophonist and vocalist and she brought with her an incredible dynamism playing next to Danny Dudeck (a.k.a. Mudcat).
After taking her independence from the Mudcat Band in Atlanta GA, and collaborating on several artistic projects, the public and her peers could see it was necessary to have her at the front of the stage with her own band... and the word that is needed to describe her and her on stage is dynamic.
This is actually a concentrated energy, the trio is explosive: Jersey Julie (vocals, saxophone),Olivier Mas (guitar, vocals), Stephane Blanc (bass). The tracks on the CD are open in style and plunge into the roots of American popular music, blues, rockabilly, bluegrass, boogie … with a fire from hell – a fury or energy hot.
Covers are written by Arthur Crudup, Billy Boy Arnold, Dickey Betts, Son House, Carl Perkins, Leiber & Stoller, Mississippi John Hurt, and original compositions of the group are just as exciting as ‘Rockabilly Fever’ or ‘Hound Dog’.
Goosebumps, the title, is not chosen at random, as the CD elicits the desired wishes of goosebumps and shivering and excitement when listening to this CD.
Jersey Julie, from New Jersey, is an American artist of great talent that knocks you off your feet in every performance and leaves no one disappointed. Julie is a wonderful and charismatic singer, sax player, dancer who has an enormous positive and uplifting energy as she performs and becomes the music, currently with her extremely talented band, formed in 2010.
Over the past 12 years, she has played for many festivals and theaters across the U.S. and Europe (Chicago Blues Festival, Freedom Creek Festival in Alabama, Blues To Bop Festival in Lugano (CH), Cognac Blues Passion and Cahors Blues Festival in France...) as Jersey Julie in her duo band The Vagabonds, as a special guest with world-class musicians or also for 5 years with the band Mudcat (from Atlanta Georiga), whom she recorded an album with called Kickin' Chicken and which can be found on the Music Maker Label from North Carolina, USA.
Julie started performing and singing at the age of 5 and playing the sax by age 8. She grew up with music, jazz and blues, country, bluegrass, folk and gospel...and so much more. She learned the blues well, living in Chicago in her 20's and playing with the musicians there. She learned so much more about country blues, jazz and life, with the blues men and women of the southern United States including Cootie Stark, Cora Mae Bryant John Fergusson, Drink Small, Beverly Watkins, Eddie Tigner, Mudcat. As a special guest she was invited to play in the USA with international artists, such as Tinsley Ellis, the late Sean Costello, she also had the great invitations to play with Bill Perry, Lucky Peterson, Walter Wolfman Washington, Sandra Hall, Derek Trucks, Robert Randolph, Cyril Neville and in Europe with Jeff Zima, Mike Lattrel, Mike Greene, and Adolphus Bell. She recently moved to France where she married Olivier Mas and started the Jersey Julie Band.
The Jersey Julie Band is a "feel-good" high energy trio with Jersey Julie on vocals, sax, tambourine, and a rickety dancing board; Olivier Mas on guitar and vocals; and Stéphane Blanc on stand-up bass. They deliver a total flow of musical freedom and energy with a major kick and a style based around American Roots Music, blues, gospel, bluegrass, country, folk, and funk. They are often on tour in France, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, USA and England.
"Goosebumps" is the first album of the group and was released on April 26th, 2012.
With a full touring schedule of clubs and venues for the last 3 years, Jersey Julie Band was also invited to play many festivals. Below is a wonderful list of some of the highlights coming up in 2013 and also highlights of 2012 and 2011.
