Album Notes

The Jesse Hiatt Band is about the common musical thread that runs through New Orleans, West Africa, Motown and Oakland. The grooves and rhythms of American popular music have their roots in Africa, and for years Jesse has been working on a singular vision for a new style that blends west African finger-picking guitars, funky horns, soulful backup singers, the magical sounds of a real Hammond B3, shake-your-booty drums and deep powerful bass-lines all with a distinctive and unique California flavor.

The Jesse Hiatt Band is a veritable super-group of talented Northern California musicians who've earned their names playing alongside celebrated artists such as Boz Scaggs, Bruce Springsteen and Josh Groban (Rich Armstrong), Lacy J. Dalton and Great American Taxi (Jim Lewin), Claudia Villella and Smith Dobson (Dan Robbins), Raphael Sadiq, Sista Monica ,The Neptunes and Eric Clapton (Tammi Brown) and Maria Muldaur (David Tucker). Jerry Martini and Cynthia Robinson the original horn section from Sly & The Family Stone are special guests on the debut record.

They've been filling shows with culturally diverse audiences from all generations. There just seems to be something in this rich groovy gumbo to please everyone, and the international upbeat positive sound is truly uplifting and gets people out of their seats. This is feel-good music for hard times! We hope you will enjoy our sounds.

Close your eyes and take a ride!

Wow, all I need is some fried catfish and a good drink! This is one of those CD's that takes you out of your head and into a place we should all take some time to visit. At times it's a bluesy, soulful blend and then just as the next song starts up you're transported to a jazzy version of the Bourban Street experience.....but not the cheesy, tourist type! This CD should come with a warning if played in the car....'cause you will find yourself thinking, how long would it take to drive to Louisiana instead of work!

Great Sounds

This is the real deal -- terrific musicians and original songs, the kind you keep replaying in your head all day. The music is a great blend of rock roots -- Africa, New Orleans and soul -- with some jazz inflections thrown in that gives it a unique flavor. I really like the title song and Memories of New Orleans, but they're all good! And the sound quality is great -- Hiatt must have put a lot of work into the production of this CD.

The artists on this cd are extremely talented. I find myself wiggling and dancing in my seat when play this cd, and love every song! I grew up on classic rock and love the sound of steely dan. The Jesse Hiatt band has the familiar sound of the classics like The Dan, but also is new and refreshing. This cd really has something for everyone and is guranteed to put a smile on your face.
