This album came together like magic, it was true serendipity. I have been pursuing my passion for music for quite some time now, and I feel like I've reached the first real milestone. I live in the middle of nowhere, but somehow, amazingly, I am in proximity of a real world class band - The Hupman Brothers. But it's not even the fact that they are a world class band, it's that they are world class nice guys! When Scott Hupman approached me at an open mic and said he wanted to record my album at a cost that would make most people think they were being swindled, my jaw dropped. I was over the moon with excitement, I was burning out street lights on the drive home, or maybe that was just coincidence... :P
It took a long time to finally decide which songs to put on the album, because I have a lot of songs that are designed for a band, and we just didn't have the time, space, and people to put a full band album together. So I chose the songs that seemed appropriate for an acoustic album, and it turned out marvelously! The songs are mostly focused on the trials of moving out of your home town and trying to find a place in the world, we all know how hard that is. But there are a few that differentiate from the theme.
Like "Locos Lobos" (one of my personal favorites), which is inspired by the playing of a Villa Lobos album in conjunction with paranormal experiences, and then soon after that, hearing that he had died... I just had to write a song about it.
Then there is "Lost for words", a song about a mysteriously charming woman who appeared on a musical tour in my town and stole my heart. Love at first sight is such a strange phenomenon, and I find an immediate effect I experience is losing my voice, never being able to find the right words to say.
I touch on my funky side a bit in the song "Rain", I have a real passion for funk music, and I couldn't make an album without putting a little taste of that pure essence of groove in there. You'll be hearing a lot more of that side of my songwriting when I finally get a band together!
If I can sell enough of these CD's, you will hear a full band album come out of my soul by next year, and it is gonna be jammin! I still have another 30+ songs to get out of my brain and into your eardrums, and I can. not. wait. To record them with a full band :P
I hope your life is full of peace and prosperity.
Thank you for supporting music!
Yours truly, Jesse Potter
