I met Jetro and his family long ago in Rio de Janeiro. His talent is stunning and his humble attittude captivating. :):) I bought two copies of the CD, one for me and one for my parents in law. We love it (I listen to its track 5 as I write this message). Way to go, brother!!!!

Pianist Jetro Da Silva's odyssey began in Rio de Janeiro, where he was born in 1967. He began playing piano in church at a young age; from there he studied at Escola Nacional de Musica, a respected classical music school in Rio, and the Berklee College of Music.
Today, Jetro holds a prominent position at Berklee and has worked with an impressive group of artists, including Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Wonder, Brandy, and the late Luther Vandross. And now he has also produced his first CD under his own name.
Live was recorded at the Greenwich Odeum and the Berklee Performance Center, with his quartet. The dominant sound here is smooth jazz melded with Brazilian, ambient, classical, and a touch of R&B. The compositions range from well chosen covers, Miles Davis' "All Blues", Milton Nascimento's "Nothing Will Be As It Was", Caetano Veloso's "Voce E Minha", and a classical piece, "Conciertode Aranjuarez", by Rodrigo, to Da Silva originals.
The mostly instrumental album is spiced up with a clutch of vocal tracks, Tom Jobim's delicate "Corcovado", "Se Essa Rua Minha", and "Beijo Partido". Jetro's spiritual side and church roots are given the nod in "Jesus, The Mention Of Your Name" and "My Tribute"; the name of the vocalist on these tracks is unknown to me, but his wonderful voice is a gift to these songs.
Finally, Jetro's expressive piano skills are showcased on the CD closing trio of originals "In Jia's Memory", "Paradise", and "For Perry Smith".
Live loses a few points for the choppy, between songs editing and the recording quality could have been a tad clearer, but no amount of technical glitches can overshadow the talent on display here. Jetro Da Silva should teach less and record more often.
