Album Notes

Since forming Jets Overhead in 2003, this five-piece from Victoria, Canada has mesmerized crowds at home and abroad with their hypnotic take on trance rock. Having shared the stage with The Dandy Warhols, Broken Social Scene, The Stills, Sam Roberts, Stars, Our Lady Peace, Tegan and Sara, Powderfinger and 54*40, the self-managed band took time out of their touring schedule to record their first full-length, Bridges. The distinctive LP was produced by Neil Osborne, longtime singer from Canadian rock luminaries 54*40, in his first official production role beyond his own band’s duties. Bridges was released in Canada on Microgroove/Warner in April 2006, and reached a top 10 position on Canada’s national college radio charts while also becoming a staple on emerging alternative outlets such as XM and Sirius satellite radio. The band recently received the prestigious national honor of a Juno nomination (Canadian Grammy equivalent) for best new group. With the growing story in Canada, Bridges has now been licensed for release in Japan (Columbia), and the UK and Europe (Sweet Nothing/Cargo). Other international releases are pending.

The momentum of Bridges comes on the heels of the band’s debut self-titled EP, which landed Jets Overhead a spot on the 2003 Reach tour in Ireland and the UK, while garnering a #42 peak on the influential CMJ Core chart in the US. The group released two music videos from the EP, both of which received specialty play on The Wedge, the premiere alternative show on MuchMusic (Canada’s national video station). In September 2004, the video for “Sun Sun Sun” was voted one of the top 20 videos at Indie Music Video Award screenings in Vancouver, Toronto, Seattle and New York.

Reminds me of the Byrds or CSN(Y)
author: Doug Hoover
After a second and third listening, the first half of the disc reminds me of the soaring guitar sound that Roger McGwynne of the Byrds had. The latter half has more of a David Crosby, Steven Stills feel with the mixture of the guitars and vocals. Then at the end you get hints of Neil Young sneaking in.

Good for listening to at work.
author: Doug Hoover
I generally listen to an alternative Internet radio feed at work. This album fit perfectly with the same space I am normally in when listening to the radio. I particularly like tracks 2 & 4.

Get Hooked NOW!
author: Tahirih
This gang of rockers is one of the few who I have like instantly upon hearing them. Their trance rock is just--well hypnotic. Jets Overhead simultaneously satiates my love to rock out and be mellow at the same time without sounding like Steely Dan. They've got great hooks and rhythm, people need to know about them. Tell everyone you know that Jets is the best so get hooked now!
