Guitarist, lyricist, and vocalist John Earl Walker became enamored with the blues at age 13, after being exposed to records by legendary guitarists of the genre such as Albert King, Magic Sam, T-Bone Walker, and Freddie King. By his 16th birthday, Walker had already begun playing guitar at local events and in clubs whenever possible. In 1967 he formed the blues-rock band the Plastic People, which included bassist Pete Harris and guitarist Joey Tremelo. Three years later Plastic People changed their name to Creedemore State, then to Plum Nelly when they signed with Capitol Records in 70 and recorded one album for them in '71, they gained national exposure opening shows for B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Alice Cooper, and Iggy Pop, to name just a few. The Plum Nelly lp is now a very rare and sought after collectors item! Following the breakup of Plum Nelly in 1976, Walker formed the first of several incarnations of the John Earl Walker Band. Walker then released his debut CD, I'm Leavin' You, in 2002, followed by Little Miss Perfect and People Are Talkin' two years later. All three discs are available on the New York-based Walkright Records label. John Earl Walker's band consists of veteran players who are gaining world-wide acceptance playing festivals, and through extensive internet, and terrestial radio airplay. John toured Australia in 2006, playing with many of the top players down under. John Earl Walker, and Peter Harris were both original members of Capitol Records recording artists Plum Nelly.

John Earl Walker has a new CD, always good news here at Roots Time because his previous CDs on the Walkright label "I'm Leavin’ You", "Little Miss Perfect" and “People Are Talkin” were not enough for us. Now there's his latest which we have extra early, just before the release date we have received it. John Earl was busy with the blues from the sixties. He had been listening to the music of the three Kings, T. Bone Walker and Magic Sam and developed the taste for it and decided that this was what he wanted to do. At thirteen he began playing guitar and in 1965 was professionally involved with music. This resulted in the creation of the band Plastic People in 1967, a group which later changed its name to Plum Nelly, and the group signed with the Capitol label releasing an LP With some success, The band opened shows for many artists including BB. King, Muddy Waters, Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper. The Plum Nelly LP is now a highly sought collector's item! Although this new CD “Come over here” was recorded under his own name. It features the musicians who surrounded him for years. ie; bassist Peter Harris (who also played with Plum Nelly) and rhythm guitarist Slinky Tremelo. The CD opens with "Tess's Shuffle," an instrumental shuffle in the best Texas-style, recalling SRV's guitar talents. In the funky tune “The Showdown" Earl shows ready qualities as a singer, but the guitars steal the show! The title track "Come Over Here" swings and rocks. “My Last Goodbye” is a nice duet with Essie The Blues Lady, a musical squabble so to speak, with sharp guitar riffs by John Earl pouring oil on the fire so that eventually they both explode! "Airport blues" is a stunning original blues, a style that John Earl Walker is so good at. Fast guitars, loosely played from the wrist played with the greatest ease and expertise then are heard in the wonderful "The World’s A Prison", a shuffle at its best. What a guitarist! The Earl changes to a medium pace in the blues-rap "Poor Boy Blues", another hit. There is a great variety of tempos and styles on "Come On Over". To finish, as it started, :is a solid, well-oiled sounding instrumental shuffle "Night Walker".
Without a doubt this is his best so far…a guitarist and songwriter who in fact deserves to be a much more familiar name and Id like to have him and the band live on one of our Belgian stages! Please, will you "Come Over Here" John Earl?

Here is another great album from John Earl Walker. The first version of John Earl’s band were formed out of the ashes of Capitol recording artists Plum Nelly who broke up in 1976 after relocating from New York to LA.
This latest album “Come Over Here” has caught the attention. of many blues fans. It is a truly great album which has been released through John Earl Walker’s own Walkright Records. .
For those who are unaware of John Earl’s previous recordings here they are;

John Earl Walker is not an unfamiliar name in America. He has been making music since turning professional in the mid 60’s and he and his band have a wealth of experience. Guitar fans will love this album for the clean and exciting guitar passages and steady grooves.
I think that many radio presenters will simply love this album! Fans also will be amazed at how good it is. I couldn’t hide my own enthusiasm! On “Come Over Here” John Earl sounds exactly as we all want him to, strong’ exciting and unique! The band really have their own sound throughout but the two instrumentals are really inspired and highlight the talents of all the musicians.

This album should bring John Earl Walker the status and recognition he deserves. It sounds even more powerful and energetic than John Earl’s previous album “People Are Talkin” The album is easy to appreciate and the band are very tight throughout.. John Earl Walker mixes rock’n roll influences with rhythm and blues and pure blues.
John Earl is a complete musician, a vocalist, guitarist and composer bringing new energy to the blues. The artwork for the album is very appealing too.
Perhaps better than any recommendations are the quotes expressed by some of the best known blues masters:

There's a lot to like about John Earl Walker's new album Come Over Here!. To my mind it's his best yet. Ten original tracks with a good balance of material on the CD, both fast, slow and a couple of instrumentals as well.
A part of an artist being able to distinguish themselves from the crowd is to develop his/her own sound. John Earl Walker has gone a long way to achieve this, on this CD. A slow blues song about leaving, "Airport Blues", one of my favourites and a style he does so well. 'The World's a Prison', a philosophical comparison of rich and poor bounces along with a tinge of jazz and John's laid back vocal style complementing the groove. 'Poor Boy Blues' another slow tune about the down and out almost sung in a narrative style, but gets it's message across without being pretentious . But don't get me wrong, there are up-tempo blues rock numbers on this CD as well, case in point is the closing instrumental track 'Nightwalker'.
All in all, a good balanced and playable CD from this New York based Blues-Rock artist."

The new album from the bluesman. John Earl Walker" is out! and how!. For
me,this is his best album to date. Its no secret of John's immense talent
as a songwriter and vocalist, but for me, he has earned the right to "Wield The Axe" in this his newest album, titled 'Come Over Here'. The album has some fiery licks for some fat shuffles, a couple of gutsy instrumentals, and a slow blues just to bring you back down again.
Mix in a great band, and he's got us covered for one of the "Great Rock"N"Blues"
albums for 2008.
