Jennifer Hall's new CD "Portrait," produced by arranger/composer and saxophonist, Tom Kubis is a smooth jazz CD. Tom Kubis composed and arranged all of the selections except for the baritone saxophone ballad, "Cold September Morning" by Steve Allen.
Kubis, known for his big band arrangements, uses the help of MIDI to create the background tracks of this project. Tom can be heard on piano throughout this CD, especially in the "Jurassic Samba", "Passion" and "Kinda 2 Kinda 3." Kevin Axt solos on the electric bass and can be heard on "Bassic Blue" and Tom Hynes solo guitar work on the Latin tunes "Afternoon in Brazil" and "Night Visions."
Mostly known as a saxophone/bassoon player, Jennifer steps out into the spotlight with her flute, alto flute and baritone saxophone for her first CD project. The title tune "Portrait" is an alto flute piece. "Atlantic Snowfall" is a jazz baritone saxophone ballad written Tom Kubis that has the flavor of Gerry Mulligan in it. The "Jurassic Samba" is a fun frolic on the flute as well as "Afternoon in Brazil" and "Night Visions." "Bassic Blue" is a blues tune with Jennifer's flute taking on a Herbie Mann feel.
Jennifer, a busy woodwind player and native of Los Angeles, has been freelancing in the Los Angeles area for many years. She can be seen and heard playing in the orchestra pits of the Pantages Theater, performing with the Pacific Symphony for Pops concerts, or playing in local jazz venues with the Jack Sheldon Big Band or Maiden Voyage Big Band.

"Gracefully developed and extremely inventive...hear her as soon as you can!"
author: Tim Price, Saxophone Journal
Jennifer Hall plays her saxes and woodwinds with such facility on her CD, Portrait...that it is inspiring to listen to her play. Understated through vivid, tender, and boldly personal concepts she connects many musical worlds in a lucid manner. This is the kind of musician who best endures in the mind, soul, heart and conscience. Gracefully developed and extremely inventive...hear her as soon as you can!
