Album Notes

JAMES HUGHES is internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading harmonica players. A professional career begun in 1960 has involved him in concert and recital performances worldwide, with regular broadcasts on radio and television. James is in constant demand as a session musician, and has been featured in film music, TV dramas and advertising jingles. He was until very recently the soloist in “Last of the Summer Wine”, playing the beautiful music composed by the late great Ronnie Hazelhurst. James has played a major role in bringing acceptance of the harmonica as a serious musical instrument, and his ability and success as a teacher has earned him great respect. James is especially proud to be the teacher of his star pupil Philip Achille. Philip Achille is exceptionally gifted (he also plays sax, violin and piano), and has made many broadcasts for the BBC, including appearances at the proms. Although teaching mainly privately, James has directed harmonica studies at the Music Conservatory in Beer Sheva, Israel, and is professor of the harmonica at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama at the Barbican, London / CARL HALLING.
