Album Notes

Emerging from the spectrum of a dynamic individuality comes Jennifer Hope, an American, solo recording Artist. Her music can be described as a varied and original mixture of musical landscapes that create an ambiance of Ethereal music. Her unique sounds of expression also intertwine elements of the Adult Alternative genre. The result has invoked an interest in a wide and diversified audience.

Hope has released two EP length CD's, "Reflections of an Enchanted Soul," and "Winds of Tomorrow," both on her independent record label, Mystic Dreams Music. Both works were co-arranged and co-produced by Tommy Reeves and Jennifer Hope. Reeves, has performed with and/or arranged for Chaka Khan, Melissa Etheridge, James Ingram, Randy Travis, Jullian Lennon, Mac Davis, Betty Buckly, Louis Price, Dick Clark Productions, NBC Productions, and the hit songwriting team of Billy Steinburg and Tom Kelly, writers of "Like a Virgin" and "True Colors".

The release of Jennifer Hope's EP's began and continues to build a collage of US and European musical outlet opportunities. Soon following the release of Jennifer's first EP, "Winds of Tomorrow," Cleopatra Records included her evocative track, "The Sky is Blushing," on their Unquiet Grave compilation of Ethereal, Gothic and Dark Wave artists. The international distribution of the compilation lead to much varied exposure.

Mystic Dreams Music obtained distribution through several independent representatives such as Audioglobe, Middle Pillar Presents, and Fossil Dungeon. Radio show airplay also began for Hope that ventured throughout the US and into twelve European countries. In addition, Jennifer's songs were spun and continue to be heard in US and European clubs. Throughout this expansion, music critiques and journalists have reviewed both EP's in print magazines and webzines. Many are intrigued by what they hear in Jennifer's voice and music alike.

Following the release of Hope's second EP, Reflections of an Enchanted Soul," Hope contributed to Cleopatra Records, "Gothic Tribute to the Cocteau Twins," with her extraordinary version of "Seekers who are Lovers". Cleopatra also released her exclusive track, "Dream Within A Dream", which appears on "A Gothic Tribute to Edgar Allan Poe".

Most recently Jennifer recorded, "No More Words," for the POW record label in Italy to be included on their compilation of 80's cover songs. The compilation, "80 Skeletons in the Closet," is due for release Novemebr, 2005. She also contributed to Cleopatra Records, "Acoustic Tribute to GodSmack" with her dreamy version of, "Moon Baby", which was released October 2004. In addition, Jennifer put a new twist on her version of Nine Inch Nails', "Terrible Lie," also for Cleopatra Records. The "Acoustic Tribute to NIN," was released May, 2005.

From the varied experiences and discoveries of her musical past to her visions for the future, Hope continues bringing life to her music. Her creations are a universal invitation to self-knowledge, discovery and growth. She offers listeners an awareness to experience music on an emotional level and escape in thought and fantasies to go beyond the limits of everyday life. To Jennifer Hope, "freedom to travel through my entire being and bring the results of this exploration to the surface is of utmost importance to me and my music which will always be apart of me".

New, Unique, and Amazing
author: Calvin Tan
This CD is a great preview of the music that Jennifer Hope is about. It is unlike anything i have ever heard. Each is unique and sets an atmosphere that takes you on a journey. My favorite track is "The Passing of our Worlds". Her voice is amazing and the tones and textures she uses blend together nicely. The reason I give this a 5 star rating is because there is nothing else out there like it and every song is a masterpiece itself. The only thing wrong with this CD is that it is too short! I look foward to her full length LP. -Calvin

This CD has elements of the Ethereal/New Age and Gothic styles. It is very original and unique. The music is also heartfelt and full of emotion. I especially liked the thought provoking, poetic lyrics.

Not so long ago I reviewed a CD by Florida darkwavers Little Miss Conception. In the review I had lamented how promise was shown by this duo, but that frontman Eve had "a lot of musical learning to do before he can provide an arrangement worthy of pressing to CD." Recent newcomer to the ethereal/new age music scene from Calif., Jennifer Hope, embodies that vision of learning that I had hoped, and failed, to find within LMC and clearly shows what I meant. Involved in music since her introduction to classical music in elementary school, Jennifer has in her time learned and played the violin (in my opinion, one of the harder instruments to master), flute, piano, clarinet, drums and vocals. She's studied music theory and song writing. She's attended the Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) and the Vocal Institute of Technology (Los Angeles, CA). Surely this amount of study put into her career speaks volumes. Appearing on compilations such as the lauded The Unquiet Grave (Cleopatra Records - 5/99), A Tribute to Edgar Allan Poe (not yet released) and Tribute to the Cocteau Twins (Cleopatra Records - scheduled for Fall 2000), Jennifer has also just released her first pro-pressed EP debut - Winds of Tomorrow. Including the highly-acclaimed The Sky is Blushing, a moody and permeating masterpiece of minimalist rhythm and dreamy vocals that first appeared on the aforementioned The Unquiet Grave, she also includes three more tracks all embodying the spiritual lyrics and minimalism arrangements that new age and ethereal aficionados have come to embrace against today's onset of "bigger faster more" in regards to beats per minute, synth-backgrounds and multiple guitar strains. Jennifer Hope possesses a flair for varying rhythms within a track's arrangement. Rhythmically clashing lyrical and instrumental components against one another, she achieves an effect that, while strange, is in most instances soothed over by her ghostly voice and mastery of the instruments. What's Inside, for example, will pit her climbing vocals against a piano and bass strumming background that at once is harsh and striking, yet soothed by her soprano reaches. In Passing of Our Worlds, by far my favorite on the EP, Jennifer's piano is mellow and soulful and the sighing chorales of the backing keyboards are just right, placed with her voice and supporting it. This track doesn't have as much of that rhythmic clash I mentioned earlier, though. It's a cleaner arrangement of music. The speaking areas of the song are quite nice, very poetic and remains rhythmic though it's done in a near-monotone while subtly subdued guitar strains create a lovely background. Somehow Passing of Our Worlds reminds me of one of the songs off of Thomas Dolby's Gate to the Mind's Eye video. We'll end here because as everyone knows I always leave something for my readers to discover. That leaves only one track, as The Sky is Blushing has been enjoyed for a year now - Angels Alone is left for you to find. In short, Jennifer Hope's debut EP is a soothing and permeating release, rhythmic nuances and all. Occasionally the lyrical versus instrumental clashing could have been toned down slightly, as interesting as the other-worldly flavor it produces may be. Jennifer's attempt to meld you with a new territory does, however, triumph. It makes me wonder what other moody landscapes her, producer Tomie Reeves and the Mystic Dreams Music outfit will dream up next.
