This extraordinary debut album uniquely combines the light with the dark, the beautiful with the mysterious. A world of trip hop beats and chill out. Sometimes eerie, sometimes majestic, but always profoundly musical.

Hailed as a great talent from a young age, Jon started playing the piano when he was five and by the age of twelve was studying piano and composition at the Royal College of Music in London.
His debut album "Opalescent" on the Absolute Zero imprint has received rave reviews around the world and tracks from the album have been featured on major compilations as well as in films, TV and commercials.
But Jon's talent doesn't merely lie with his innovative and exciting piano and keyboard ability. He is currently much in demand for his amazing ear producing other people's work and also his imaginative writing skills as a screen composer. Jon's recent projects are wide-ranging and have included remixes (under the name Mr Roque) for Frou Frou, Clarksville and Keane. He has toured, played live and worked in the studio with Imogen Heap, Steve Balsamo and the Dum Dums. Most recently Jon has been recording with Brian Eno.
Jon is currently working on his eagerly awaited second album "Contact Note" which will be released on Absolute Zero through Just Music in January 2004.

one of the finest achievements

in downtempo... a perfect cross between eno, budd, orbit, cocteau twins, story, kindle, and moby but without vocals and with supreme, disarming, and relentless sound, timbre, and beat sensibility.... still a classic, a staple, and a model, after years of musical development, listening trends, and multi-faceted competition...
one of the most endearing works of musical art in EM/IDM.... enjoy forever!

you do hear influences of other, "older", artists on this cd: brian eno comes to mind very easily. jon hopkins has written/composed an impressive first album and he was "only" in his early twenties!
i think this cd will age well -- one thing's for sure, it will be in my "favorite rotation" for a bit of time.
