Royal College Of Music graduate and Brian Eno collaborator Jon Hopkins' debut album 'Opalescent', released in 2001, was widely hailed as a fresh take on a musical genre that had faded since the disappearance of the likes of luminary duo Global Communication in the mid 90s....
His 2004 offering, 'Contact Note' sees 24 year old Hopkins creating some epic soundscapes that can be listened to as comfortably out of the speakers of Café Del Mar as at a Royal Festival Hall concert, its accessibility not preventing 'Contact Note' from being a serious and challenging musical creation.

Travveling through dark to light
author: Jennifer Tissot
This album is heavily textured with many artistic layers to form a complex pattern of beats and melodies that fall into darkness and resurface to the light. The most eerie is Black and Red, a masterpiece that sucks you deep into an alien world and then into shattering sunlight and to somewhere safe and tranquil on the last track. All in all, it's one electronic album you've got to have in your collection. Great for reflection and quiet times.

another masterpiece by
author: Axel Vonkollar
hopkins, more expansive, epic and ambitious, with (sparse) vocal tracks, but less original, since the winks to Schnauss, Delerium, and even Stearns, Schulze, and Rich, are more integrations than simple tributes and are numerous, weighty, and obvious... but hopkins' imagination, smoothness, subtlety and delicate touch dignify his otherwise experimental bent and he is forging ahead without flinching... thanks to hopkins, EM/IDM is definitely here to stay, viva EM/IDM!!!

Awesome CD. Great melodic downtempo breakbeats
author: Chris Oje
Contact Note is an excellent cd very similar in style and sound to Ulrich Schnauss. While remaining downtempo the entire time, the tracks vary from very melodic ambient to more upbeat breakbeats. Highly recommended!

Very worthwhile

It's about time that major labels sat up at took notice of the fact that the focus is supposed to be on MUSIC, NOT making money. They think that the current loss of revenue is due to downloading, but it's mostly due to the fact they're peddling shit.
There needs to be some sort of forum where people over the age of 12 can go and get a reliable source of new music and impartial reviews.
This CD would definitely be in there. It's varied, stimulating and relaxing. I wish you the best, Jon.
