ABOUT THE ALBUM

The holiday season is filled with a special kind of magic: trees glisten with freshly fallen snow, families are reunited for the traditions of gift-giving and mealtime stories, and age-old carols imbue the air. But how often do we have the chance to steep our thoughts in solitude?

"Through Sand and Snow" brings the listener on a nighttime journey through the aura of mystery and awe that Christmas so quietly inspires in our hearts. A vast nature surrounds us in these colder months, longing to be explored... Sometimes, it is only after we have that our own homes feel even warmer.

Arrangements/Production by Jillian Goldin & Andrew Aversa.

ABOUT JILLIAN

Jillian Goldin’s music, both earthy and ethereal, reflects the awe and passion of timeless nature. Its soul-touching alchemy has attracted attention and multi-award-winning acclaim, deriving from her talent both as a classically trained vocalist and songwriter. With her debut albums ORIGINS and THROUGH SAND AND SNOW, Jillian responds to the lack of lyric-centric works in contemporary New Age/World music. Allowing her powerful voice to soar through beds of exotic instrumentation, her style is as much an exploration in text as in sound - unified by themes of mystery, plight, and catharsis.

Jillian's music is being broadcast to more than 8 million listeners worldwide, spanning over 60 stations including XM and Sirius satellite radio - a list that is rapidly growing. The artist has also amassed a passionate fan base online. In the listener-voted music competition OurStage.com, she triumphed over twenty thousand songs to win the $5,000 Grand Prize, and has garnered the New Age/World Prize thrice over. With other awards including third place in the Indie International Songwriting Contest, Mystic Soundscapes’ Best of 2007 Award, and dozens of online features, Jillian Goldin is steadily becoming both a critical and popular favorite – and redefining what we think of New Age/World music along the way.

Magical!

Jillian Goldin has done it again. This wintry EP makes a beautiful followup to "Origins" with its chilling sounds and lush vocal arrangements. It's really too good to call a "Christmas album"... these songs stand on their own!

Put together beautifully
author: Kaiser Farooque
I actually don't really care for carols, yet this was really enjoyable. The album overall was put together beautifully: from the build up with the Prelude and I Wonder as I Wander (my personal favorite), through the climax with Walking in the Air, and to the conclusion with the end of Silent Night. Despite it being only six tracks, the way it's put together feels very complete due to the progression of the songs. I think you'll find the way Jill sings here--particularly in I Wonder as I Wander and Walking in the Air--will leave you humming these songs to yourself for weeks to come.

Christmas wonder!
author: Ryan Thompson
I've always enjoyed the Christmas songs in the minor mode, and thought that there aren't enough of them. Thankfully, Jill lends her wonderful sense of rhythm (not to mention her lovely voice!) to these carols with splendid effect. Few Christmas albums have a sense of purpose -- this transcends the usual Christmas summary, and walks a deliberate path. A lovely album that will be in my car until well after the season ends.
