JILL ZUTTY – COLD DARK NIGHT : Jill Zutty is a singer/songwriter based out of Princeton, New Jersey. She recently released two debut CDs and is promoting both on the web in conjunction with in store placements. She writes mature songs with poetic complex lyrics based on life experiences, observations and some fictional tales. Her earnest vocals add depth and dimension to her words. Zutty is a prolific writer for herself and she hopes to compose songs for films, television and other artists in the future.
Jill's influences included Joni Mitchell, Sheryl Crow and Jewel to name but a few. Zutty's CDs captures a diverse range of sounds. Cold Dark Night is a mix of alternative rock and dark pop. First-rate musicians support Jill and the production by Todd Herzog on both CD's is tight and polished. The opening title track of Cold Dark Night combines subtle keys with gentle
guitars and a steady beat flowing into Jill's spirited vocals. 'Suicide Mission' is a shadowy ballad with cutting edge instrumentation and expressive vocals. 'Sacrifice' includes interesting vocal inflections with
delicate musical tones and fine fiddle work towards the close of the track.
Jill is a promising artist who writes visual heartfelt soundscapes!

"Her self-described rock/pop style conjures images of Jewel and Shawn Colvin, but Jill Zutty is her own shining starlight on this cold dark night".
In her CD Cold Dark Night, Jill Zutty’s New York accent comes out only through her lyrics, where the aftermath of the 9-11 tragedies has quite plainly seared her soul. A delicate and graceful voice weaves among an acoustic guitar and the result is an intimate portrait of a seasoned heart, a heart that knows sadness in all its forms. Zutty sings of the 9-11 tragedies on Track 12 “You’re with me in my Heart”:
Please help me now I need to find you
I can no longer touch you
Feels like we’re miles apart
But I know you’re always with me
I feel it in my heart
Her sanguine nature seeps through the cracks in the melancholy, allowing the listener to sympathize with the singer but to look forward and move on. Zutty elicits the emotion, but doesn’t dwell, which is an endearing trait. In the song “Trapped,” she sings:
Shallow waters rising
‘Till the tide moves in
Covers up the thoughts inside my head
Restitution my solution for my sins…
I’ve got so much life inside of me
Zutty’s voice, with the charm of Nanci Griffith and the clarity of Allison Krauss, demands recognition when it melts across the hum of Todd Herzog’s violin or David Williams’ banjo. Her self-described rock/pop style conjures images of Jewel and Shawn Colvin, but Jill Zutty is her own shining starlight on this cold dark night.
