About the Artists

Jim Dalton & Maggi Smith-Dalton are known nationwide for their innovative and creative programming, solid research and dazzling musical abilities. For much of their career they have specialized in performing 19th and early 20th century American music in historically informed style on period and period-appropriate instruments.

This charming album of Victorian Christmas music by Jim Dalton and Maggi Smith-Dalton features familiar as well as unique and little-known holiday music, including a carol with words by Harriet Beecher Stowe.


Multi-instrumentalist and composer Jim Dalton is on the faculty of the Boston Conservatory in the music theory and music education departments and is a busy free-lance performer in various ensembles from chamber groups to symphonies and in theater and opera pit orchestras. His compositions have been performed around the U.S., Canada and in Europe.

Maggi Smith-Dalton began her career in cabarets and night clubs, and has maintained a parallel career as a historian. In addition to her concert work she has been a soloist with large choirs, hosted public radio classical music shows, and sung in the U.S. and abroad. She is also a published author (history, short stories) and a weekly columnist for the Boston Globe.
