What the critics say:
"...One of the finest discs I have heard in a while, highly recommended." -Budd Kopman, Cadence Magazine
"...342? If you like fine guitar playing, Hershman's centered yet adventurous album may just be the 14U."
-Jim Ferguson, Jazz Times
"With full-bodied richness and free flowing riffs, guitarist Jim Hershman swings with skill and style on his latest recording as a leader entitled 342..."
-Mark F. Turner, AllAboutJazz.com
Great straight-ahead playing featuring Lee Konitz, Scott Colley and Kenny Wollesen. A must have for lovers of straight- ahead interactive jazz. Jim Hershman brings authority and sensitivity to his second outing as a leader, with a great mix of standards and original compositions.
Jim has a long list of credits as a sideman including the renowned Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and the New York based band The Other Quartet.
This recording brings to the fore Jim's love of interactive playing; the chemistry of the group is shaped as much by listening as by playing. Solos intertwine and weave together in a thoroughly organic mix that invites the listener to participate in the process of musical discovery.
Lee Konitz joins the trio on three selections including his own Subconscious Lee and the CD ends with a memorable saxophone/guitar duet of Who Can I Turn To.
This is a must have for jazz fans that value great music making and a sense of musical adventure. This all star cast brings a whole range of colors and moods to table. You'll be sure to enjoy the feast!

The Real Deal
author: Stan D.I woke up one morning to hear the first cut of this CD, "Nubie and Nüüst". The arpeggio lines he was playing caught my attention. Now that I've heard all the songs on the CD, I can say that this is no fluffy stuff, it's the REAL DEAL.
