Album Notes
"Open Road" by guitarist Jim Jag features tasty instrumental compositions and arrangements of standards, that draw from his influences in jazz, rock, acoustic, brazilian and latin music.

Jim is joined by musicians Chieli Minucci and Matt Sciaretta on this release. His composition "The Block" was awarded honorable mention in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

"Jag's fluid and lyrical playing is at the forefront of this independent release...Jag may demonstrate his plentiful skills on the more straightforward material, but it's the trickier cuts that pay the dividends."

I used to play with Jim...
...and he's just gotten better. This is a great studio effort. I love the double-tracked guitar. My new wife prefers smooth jazz to the Arfro-pop and alternative stuff I often play, and this CD got several play requests from her on our last road trip. I miss playing drums with you, Jim. Move out to LA so we can continue! BTW CD Baby was a great online experience with speed, reliability and just enough communication to feel Amazon-quality without the corporate vibe.

Melody to burn
Jim Jag can just flat out play. "Open Road" is a warm, eclectic tour de force that ranges from some dead-on bossa nova interpretations to pure melodic jazz. Favorites are the opener, "G.C," which shows Jag can write a melody line that's as clear and evocative as his playing, and the lyrical "Straight from the Heart." But most of the cuts have something surprising to offer.

"Open Road" is the perfect accompaniment for cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway on a summer day. An absolute pleasure.

snazzy and subtle by turns
Snazzy and subtle by turns, Jim Jag's tunes might turn me into a jazzer.

Delightful as a Sunday drive . . . .
The covers are classic. His original songs are soulful and from the heart. Every song has his smile on it. Though it's his recording debut, he brings years of of fresh talent and experience. Great!

A wonderful respite after a long day
This is a wonderful recording...easy listening...smooth jazz with some unexpected twists. A glass of wine...a fire in the fireplace...and some Jim Jag music...a nice combination
