Jim Kaminski cuts loose with some highly expressive guitar playing and strong heartfelt vocals on his debut CD with his trio Jim K & Co. Kaminski's bandmates, the versatile Rudi Weeks on bass and powerhouse drummer Keith Levereault, ably support Kaminski as he tears through a hot 11 song set of originals that combine funk, soulful rock, danceable blues and mellow jazz.
On the soulful and funky "Give It All You've Got" Kaminski shows an Albert King influence with sparse guitar fills and bluesy vocals.
Driven by Weeks' funky base lines' "Keep On" tells the tale of a hard working and still hopeful rock survivor who wants to get inside your soul with his music.
On this cut as well as " Straight From The Heart", Kaminski,s soloing combines the passion of Stevie Ray Vaughan with the wildness of Jeff Beck, unafraid to crank it up and take chances, playful and seriously intense all at once.
The raw emotion of Kaminski's playing is truly straight from the heart.
Kaminski also shows his romantic side on the reggae-inflected "Only One World" and the jazzy "Sure Thing."
The singing and guitar playing on "Only One World" is extremely soulful, with very personal poetry and a sense of angry defiance and bitter-sweet longing that is beautiful.
On "No Trace", what starts as a mellow acoustic tune builds in intensity and features more untamed and over the top soloing.
Kaminski establishes himself ( or re-establishes for those who recall his previous work with Fat ) as one of the Valley's best and most creative guitarists.
This is an album that gets better with each listening as the songs start to take hold.
They all have a familiar quality with traces of Creedence, ZZ Top or Marc Almond, but with Kaminski's highly individual guitar style and gritty vocals " No Holding Back " is a strong personal statement and a great introduction to a talented song-writer.

Great CD, Only One World is probably my favorite.
I've seen Jim live maybe 5 times in western Mass, looks like he's getting ready to release another album and tour it up. If you go see him play don't expect to hear songs exactly like the album.. he rocks and jams it out hard. Nobody can deny Jim K's mastery of that old Telecaster!
