Album Notes

Singer/songwriter Jim Major is releasing his first solo CD entitled "One Blue Eye" on Stink Eye Records. On this new release Jim employed highly acclaimed producer/drummer Gregg Williams who has worked with Sheryl Crow and The Dandy Warhols. "One Blue Eye" contains 12 freshly crafted pop songs rich with guitars, cello, and driving drums.

In 2002, Jim's former band Dan-O released the CD "Eddie Would Go" which was nominated for a 2002 Na Hoka Hano Hano Award (Hawaiian Grammy's) for best Rock Album.

ISLAND SOUNDS

By Wayne Harada
Honolulu Advertiser Entertainment Writer

"One Blue Eye" by Jim Major; Stink Eye Records

Genre: Contemporary, pop.

Distinguishing notes: Major makes an auspicious debut with 12 new songs (all but one are from his pen) that mine contemporary pop elements. He writes and sings of loneliness, hope, love and other sentiments, tapping a bit of rock, a bit of blues, a bit of folk. "Under the Moon" reflects his upbeat, rock posture; "Bareass and Truthful" is a brooding ballad; "She Only" plays like a folk troubadour recalling a relationship. One of the best bets: a ballad,

"Angels Fall (Song for Jeff Buckley)," gentle on the ears, with personal eloquence.

The outlook: A welcome effort from someone of the pop genre; Jawaiian fanatics need to look elsewhere.

Our take: Could be a Major-domo with the right marketing.

"One Blue Eye"
Jim Major
Stink Eye Records

Jim Major appears to be speaking to the alienated and the lonely with this album of well-crafted, original guitar-oriented rock. He provides a clue to the story behind one song but leaves it completely up to the listener to decipher and assess the lyric images of the others. For instance, "NYC 5am" mentions the torment that can come when thinking of what might have been, but who are the "kids" mentioned, and does this matter?

"She Only" appears for a moment to be a variation of a country hit before moving in a completely different direction. Catchy guitar riffs and a strong lyric hook give this one pop-chart potential.

Clean somber arrangements -- some up-tempo hard rock, others soft and embellished with cello -- make the music interesting as well.

Well needed revival of soulful, melodic, and comforting rock and roll. Love all three CDs as much as I loved the live duo with Sandy Norton. I was starring as an inebriated Josie that night, but you can't always shine. The only good thing that came of that night was an introduction to Jim Major and three of his releases. Thank you. Signed, Mama digs

It's music with a soul. Not sure why it hasn't made it to mainstream radio. This CD is worth every penny, and I can't wait for Jim' Major's Next CD.

WOW- I started listening to the music and it brought me back to Tim Buckley's music and then I read more and realized one song was about his son who died tragically. Keep going - WE WANT MORE!!!!

Jim Major is a "cool new discovery" indeed. I'll admit I had no idea who he was until I heard about his tribute song to Jeff Buckley, and being the fan of Buckley that I am, I thought i'd check this out. Such a pleasant surprise! I'm always excited to find new music to enjoy and "One Blue Eye" has been a great intro to Major's music. Melodic and intriguing, i'm instantly a new fan.
