Album Notes

BITCHES I HAVE KNOWN - The venerable Jimmy Velvit, an authentic American early rock & roll hero, recorded hits in pop, country western and blues fields! He also toured with Jimmy Reed, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Ray Price and many other big stars. In this CD Velvit has transformed into one bad-ass dude, singing 13 bad-ass songs laced with edgy humor on his favorite subject, bitches of all kinds.

Great stories and a killer studio band with extraordinary lead guitar, slide guitar and harmonica playing. The style is early rock & roll, with slices of R&B and Country as well. And the irrepressable Virginettes supply the kinky three-part backup vocals! Here's what these 13 entertaining songs are about:

1. If I'd Shot The Bitch When I Met Her I'd Be Out By Now - A most cool and funny song about a woman who done him wrong and what he did about it! Has some of the best harmonica playing ever done, by harp master Paul Harrington.

2. I Hate Every Bone In Your Body Except Mine - This song is about a guy who falls for a motorcycle bitch who has love-slaves everywhere! Funny lyrics and good story line as well. KICK-ASS band! Just the TITLE is enough to evoke laughter from the most stone-faced male. We ALL thought that was a bone when we were just boys.

3. The 1-900 Telephone Bitch - He responds to a flyer put under his windshield wiper for psychic guidance. She knows EVERYTHING about him, too! Turns out it's the wench next door spying on him!

4. The Bitch Is Coming - Without saying it, this song is about Hurricane Katrina. Recorded before Katrina, it doesn't matter. All giant hurricanes are dangerous. It's scary when you know one's coming and this one's a bitch!

5. I Wish I Was Barbie 'Cause The Bitch Has Everything - About a washwoman lamenting her station in life. Very funny, with great mimich of the doll-voice in a few places!

6. Life's A Bitch And She's In Heat - Got the everyday blues of too much work and not enough fun? Here's your anthem and your remedy!

7. Jackhammer The Bitch - What do you do to the woman who has emptied your bank account, your wallet and had the nerve to cheat on you as well? Helllooooo!

8. I'll Love That Bitch Till The Day I Die - Well whadda ya know, an affectionate bitch song! Cool beans!

9. Bitch In Heat - He chews her out and preaches against coming home so late after being out all night. We don't need another mouth to feed! It turns out he's talkin' to his dog, who's gotten pregnant during a night out! "But you're still the best hound I ever had!"

10. Bitchin' - Every teenager who ever cruised the Dairy Queen (or an equivalent drive-in food establishment with carhops) will relate to this easy bitchin' song! Fun stuff.

11. Conversation With A Bitch - A barroom story about meeting up with one and digging out her reasons for doing what she does. Entertaining as well as having a philosophical touch!

12. Two Bottles of Wine, A Jukebox And Jimmy Reed- Velvit's tribute to his deceased touring companion, with harmonica to match. Recorded in the Jimmy Reed style, heartfelt toward the late blues legend. A good song for the North Texas Push dance, we've been told.

13. Velvit's Back In Town - After a time off the road and away from the recording studio, Velvit's baaaaack! And he's one bad-ass dude. It's party time and this song is an anthem to the subject of partying!!

Has 6-page foldout with plenty of very cool pics of the cover bitches. There's no profanity except for the "B" word, and folks, that's tame these days.

OK, first of all, I have never been into the blues, and don't have ANY blues stuff in my collection. Second of all, when I first heard this CD several years ago, I knew I HAD to have a copy! The songs are really well-written, catchy as all git-out, and the band is just *smokin'*! Great music to drive to, especially on a sunny day! You really don't find quality musicianship and songwriting this great, just every day. And Jimmy's world-weary voice really adds to the the charm. This one's a keeper!

What a surprise! I bought the album for one song: I Hate Every Bone In Your Body, Except Mine. But when I heard the band (Fantastic!) the lyrics (Funy as hell) and Jimy's singing style (Cool with a Been there-Done that quality) I fell in love with all 13 tracks. It's one of my favorites. Definitely convertible, top down, cruising the highway or main street USA. I'm glad I bought this one.
