Lucky Dog is a collection of Jimmys favorite songs he wrote or co-wrote over the last 15 years with the exception of a classic Grand Funk Railroad song that he feels was a landmark in his development as a songwriter. "People Let's Stop The War" emoted so much direct protest that there was no turning back to only the fun stuff. His version juxtiposes the speechlike lyrics with eastern flute riffs, funky acoustic guitars and percussion that builds to a huge vocal group chanting the title.

Jimmys influences are strong on this release. From the vocal harmonies of The Beatles and The Eagles to the controlled feedback electric guitarwork reminiscent of Jeff Beck or Neil Young. Each song was produced with an instrument in mind to counter the vocal like flute, trumpet, pedal steel, violin or Jimmys guitar.

The theme of "time" runs through most of the songs here. Whether it be time spent with a friend on a beach holiday or managing time to make all the necessary ingredients for a peaceful, less stressful life.
