Album Notes

A multifaceted guitarist/vocalist/songwriter, a groove heavy bass player, and a drummer with roots in jazz. These are the three elements that combine to create the classic yet unique sound of The Jim Pullman Band.

Formed in 2001, the JPB has been gaining attention in and around their homebase of Eau Claire, Wisconsin on the strength of their live shows. Phrases such as "power folk" and "pop with a punch" have been used to describe the groups sound. Rather than hiding the acoustic guitar behind the music to add "texture" Pullman has brought the acoustic guitar out front...Providing Rhythmic melodies, and Driving acoustic grooves for the music to stand on! At the foundation are, Bill Nelson, an intricate rock solid drummer, and Kalin Capra, adding bass lines that are both elegant, and melodic. The variety of styles in the bands original songs as well as the tunes they've chosen to cover in a live setting bear witness to the diversity of this fast-rising trio.

The Genesis of the band traces back to it s namesake, guitarist/vocalist Jim Pullman. After performing several solo shows in Eau Claire, Pullman was looking to flesh out his sound. High school classmate and close friend Bill Nelson hadn't touched a drum set in years, but figured he could lend his pal a hand and at least give him something to play along with. After wearing off the rust, as well as the cement in Pullmans basement, Nelsons talent was reborn and the two of them reached an obvious conclusion: this was the origin of a band. Now they just needed someone to play bass. That someone was Kalin Capra.

A seasoned veteran of other local bands, Capra would indeed prove to be the final piece of the puzzle. Possessing a musical background radically different than his new cohorts, the bassist would add not only to the rhythm of the JPB, but also to their sound and style. A quick listen to the bands songs show the threesomes range; the country-pop of Hardwater Highway, the all-out rock groove of Turnin The Tide Around, the elegant ballad Salvation,& the island shuffle of Hot Tub.

In the end, it s all about the music. The Jim Pullman Band isn t necessarily out to change the world or alter history. They play because they love what they do and want to share it with as many people as possible. Perhaps one fan at a JPB show put it best: Their music seems to incorporate many different styles, but every song sounds like them. They offer a bit of everything. I guess you could call them a classic rock band; or maybe folk rock band. I don t know; they re just good.

Great songwriting and musicianship. This album is a breath of fresh air in a world of shallow computer enhanced pop. They are truly skilled as a live band!! And if you didn't know, they are one of the five finalists in ABC's Daily Buzz contest "The top 25 bands in the country you are not listening to" http://www.dailybuzz.tv/contests/132372.html

I find the Vocals and Musicianship on this record Outstanding! The lyrics really make the listener "Feel" ...Hey Arron, Thats the great thing about there being more than one Music Group out there ...you dont have to listen to any one album exclusively...although if i HAD to , this record "Shed My Skin" would definetly be in consideration!

Simple, yet obvious!

"Shed My Skin" in short is a decent album. However, I found when listening that JPB sounded mostly like any other pop/folk band out there. Don't get me wrong, I like a catchy melody, but it dosen't seem very innovative. I most definatley wouldn't exclusivley listen to this album, unless I was forced to.
