In a phrase, the music and lyrics of Jim Stevens, and his latest cd “BeDo”, “Just Makes You Feel Better”. Take a listen… If you feel, through all the negativity, stress, aggression, hypocrisy, struggling and despair there seems to be on planet Earth these days, that the world could and SHOULD be a better place, that we could all be kinder, better, more excellent to each other, and that life should be fun, you agree with Jim. If you love to sing, be happy, positive, and live in the moment, then you and Jim have a lot in common. You and Jim should chill together. Get rid of stress. You may even find yourself getting introspective and “deep” here and there as you sing along to songs on “BeDo”, without even noticing! Oh, and it’s great driving music, too. Did we say FUN?
You name the type of music style or project, and Jim has more than likely sung or done it, everything from playing Manhattan venues in rock bands and acts of all sorts to developing and singing in full-fledged musicals, to singing in acoustic trios in Texas, to singing commercials, etc, etc. He has recorded albums in bands and as a solo artist under a different name. Yet “BeDo”, his newest release, he considers truly his first "real" album, one that comes on the heels of major life changes over the last couple of years. During and just after these changes and events, Jim took the time and got totally re-connected with what’s really important in all our lives, both individually and collectively, as we cruise through our journeys on this planet. The result is “BeDo”, and Jim is proud to truly call it not his own, but OUR own……take a listen...let it grow on you...it might just make you feel better...
Here is a fact about the music on “BeDo" – men and women, boys and girls, aged 11 to 70 like this record, or at least a number of the songs on it. Not every man, woman, boy or girl in that age range, of course, but lots of them. The first point here is that we as humans all, inherently, relate to the messages contained lyrically in the album, and the second, and maybe the most important, point is that the MUSIC on “BeDo”, not just the lyrics, speaks to lots of different kinds and ages of people, and that’s just fine, that’s what it’s all about! The general sonic feel of “BeDo” comes across as ‘60’s and ‘70’s pop/rock recorded today, and tons of influences such as The Beatles (both early and late), Queen, the Eagles, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, Kiss, and Broadway musicals, (the list could go on forever) are evident amongst the spirited musical arrangements and the rollicking, sometimes lush, sometimes basic vocal harmonies. This music is from and for EVERYONE. It’s chillin’ and kickin’at the same time. “BeDo", as well as Jim, is here for us ALL, to help lighten our loads and help us “just feel better!”
Altogether, Jim Stevens and “BeDo” provide a clean, crisp, thought-provoking musical take on our times. Pop it in, turn it up, and enjoy life a little, or maybe a LOT, more!
