This is my first instrumental album, featuring new versions of the tunes I originally composed and recorded for the "Insider's Limon" Audio Tour score. The music reflects my experience of the landscape, the people, the history, and the natural environment of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and the beach towns of Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo - a place that, over the last 5 years, has truly become my home.
What you’ll hear on this album, for the most part, is groove music - harmonically and structurally simple by design, and - like the sea - driven by its rhythms. We took this approach in attempt to convey the essence and atmosphere of life on the Limon coast and provide a backdrop to the oral histories of its people that comprise much of Insiders’ Limon. We were happy enough with the results to want to do a music-only version to share with a broader listening audience and especially those of you already familiar with my music. And so, 2 1/2 years later, after many hours of editing, re-recording, reshaping and remixing the tracks written specifically for that mother project, I humbly present to you PUNTA RASTA. - Jim Vick
