Album Notes

Born and raised in rural Saskatchewan, JJ Guy is a talented young fiddle player who grew up surrounded by fiddle music, a tradition which is now reflected in his own playing and passion for the music. It's often said that "to hear JJ play is to witness a tune come alive."
He has competed in fiddling contests since the age of 7 and was the Saskatchewan Novice Fiddling Champion in 1986 and Saskatchewan Junior Fiddling Champion in 1988, along with numerous others including the Northwest Round-Up in Swan River MB and Harvest Showdown in Yorkton SK.
JJ started out by performing many shows and dances across Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba with his two sisters in a family band. Then, in 1995 he joined the band Highway 49, a group he still performs with.
JJ's skills keep him in demand on the performance circuit of Western Canada, including appearances with Whiskey Creek, Midnight Mist, Lone Tree Road, the Midnight Ramblers and others. His busy schedule has allowed him to work with some of the biggest names in the fiddle and acoustic music world, including Vic Mullen, Calvin Vollrath, Gordon Stobbe, Jerry Holland, Clint Dutiaume, Freddie Pelletier and many more.
In recent years, JJ has headlined shows including many Saskatchewan Fiddler Association events, and recently teamed up with artist Jeff Straker for a series of well-received shows around Saskatchewan ("Sask-a-Tune Jam"). Along with playing festivals such as Summer Solstice Festival in Gravelborg SK, the Northern Lights Bluegrass Festival at Ness Creek and the Under the Porcupine in northern Manitoba, JJ instructs at fiddle camps including the S.C.E.S. Fiddle Camp at Emma Lake and Arlington Beach, Barrows MB, Tuffnull SK, Norway House MB, Kenosee Lake SK and Gavin Lake BC. JJ is currently employed teaching fiddle with the Frontier Fiddlers in Barrows MB and Pelican Rapids MB, along with the Sapotaweyak Education Authority and The Swan Valley Regional in Swan River MB. He is also much in demand as a judge and guest artist at many fiddle contest and functions!

JJ has been featured in such publications as Prairies North Magazine and the Western Producer, along with many other prairie publications. He is a featured performer on the live compilation album Celebration of Music. and has been heard on CBC Radio Saskatchewan, CJGX/GX94 Yorkton, CFMQ Hudson Bay, CKQX Pelican Rapids, CHIP Pembroke, CJWW Saskatoon and the Canadian Wildlife Adventures DVD series "Bear Adventures".

JJ second CD titled Cadillac, just released in summer 2007, includes a special appearance by Canadian music legend Vic Mullen.
