Album Notes

Occasionally sounding like a less-polished Radiohead, Joe Jack Wagner makes some pretty big changes on this album. Look back to his previous The Only Non-Classical Album You’ll Ever Need. It’s a complete stylistic shift, akin to Of Montreal’s progression from twee yet trippy Beatles ripoffs to a full out neo-glam (Which I think worked much better for Kevin Barnes). I think Joe Jack needs to do something similar. This is a very talented band with almost too many ideas. Give them time. Meanwhile, High On Lo-Fi is a sprawling and bizarre work that can be satisfying if you put the time into it. Check out ‘The Waiting Game’ and ’(Red Is) Gonna Gonna’.
