Album Notes

Jared Karol is a fingerstyle guitarist in the country blues and ragtime traditions, having been influenced by such guitarists as Jorma Kaukonen, Kenny Sultan, Gary Davis, Blind Boy Fuller, Mississippi John Hurt and Big Bill Broonzy, to name a few. On this album, he has recruited an almagamation of musicians, forced them all into a room at gunpoint, called them a band, and pressed record. Okay, it didn't go exactly like that, but it sure was a lot of fun. There is great instrumentation accompanying Jared's (mostly) fingerstyle guitar on this album: mandolin, harmonica, fiddle, banjo, clarinet and guitar solos, and a solid background of either bass or tuba. . .yes, a tuba. Man, I love the tuba! But who doesn't? The album's 17 tracks weave nicely between solo guitar instrumental ragtime tracks to full band numbers. If you enjoy country and ragtime blues, you'll be sure to enjoy this record.

Jared Karol plays regularyly in and around the Bay Area, sometimes solo, sometimes with members of the KSO, and sometimes sitting in with other local bands. Check out all the exploits and other tomfoolery at www.jaredkarol.com.

Love the Tuba!
author: John Rooney
WOW! The only thing I could even remotely complain about is that there aren't enough songs with a tuba on 'em. . . but, hey, how many artists have a tuba on ANY songs! Great stuff, looking forward to more music from this artist. . .

Great Music
author: Melody
I completely agree with Richard. This is just plain great music. I like to put it on and head out into the country side and just let it take me where it will. The artist is a masterful fingerstyle guitarist. This CD needs to be part of your blues and ragtime collection.

great energy and playing. . .great mood!
author: Richard Gizinia
This cd is really a lot of fun! Jared and the KSO really get into some good grooves. Jared's fingerstyle guitar is superb and takes you back to another time and era. The rest of the KSO rounds out the sound providing an overall great bluesy, raggy, (sometimes) folksy good time feel. I listen to it all the time, and I like more and more with each listen. Reminds me of Hot Tuna, Blind Boy Fuller, Roy Bookbinder. . .love it!
