Album Notes

Singer/Songwriter/Pianist

Age 25

Newark NJ

Ahmed Jamal Malik (Ä´-m?ed J?oo-môl M?oo-l¯ek´) n. 1. One who is praiseworthy. adj. 2. Spiritually beautiful n. 3. King; Servant of GOD;

J. KING Combines the electric and soul moving deliveries of Prince, Sam Cooke and Marvin Winans with the lyrical prowess of R. Kelly and Curtis Mayfield; add a hint of Jazz melody and you have the musical mélange that is J. King. Growing up in Newark, NJ, J. King was afforded the privilege and opportunity that came with being tapped into the East Coasts rhythmic pulse. From performing with legends like Aretha Franklin to doing background vocals for Lauryn Hill and performing with Hidden Beach artist Mike Phillips, J. King has already been among the masters of his time.

The 25 year-old New Jersey native began performing at the age of five on Christmas day, belting out tunes from the Temptations Christmas Album and hasnt stopped since. Keeping his ears sharp by listening to Jazz legends like Herbie Hancock and The Ahmed Jamal Trio, J. King uses his voice like an instrument and produces as he says an eclecticvocal acrobatic sound, that stimulates every fiber of your being. His brand of music is something beyond R&B. Drawing motivation from his daughters, J. King writes with his heart and soul in tact.

J. King’s goal is to take music back to a live place; a place where the raw synergy of a jam session can become a hit record. King counts his greatest accomplishments thus far as being the places hes traveled and cultures hes experienced because of music. Some of those accomplishments include singing background vocals for Matchbox 20, performing in the international tour of Mama I Wanna Sing, and performing in the off Broadway production of Music Man. He says, Musically Ive already satisfied the physical and spiritual goals and now its my job to bring it around full circle. Welcome to the new breed of music royalty.
