At the age of 14, I took up the guitar and by age 16 formed a band call “The Sensational Youngsters”. We played in the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware where we would sneak in some of that new Rock & Roll sounds to the delight of teens and dismay of parents. In 1959, the band's manager changed the name to “Johnny Kay’s Rockets” and opportunity came knocking. I got a call from a man claiming to be Bob Hayes, manager for Bill Haley. Hayes said Haley wanted to catch my group. I didn’t think it would happen but it did on a Saturday evening. When Haley left after only two numbers I thought that was the end. However, it was only the beginning. In May of 1960 I auditioned and by the age of 20, I was playing guitar with Bill Haley & the Comets and traveling the world. Bill's recording of "Rock Around The Clock” set in motion the ROCK & ROLL phenomenon that is still with us today. For over a decade I traveled the planet having a ball playing the songs that started the "Big Beat". It's an experience that I will never forget.
"The Rite Mix" = Rock & Roll's original ingredients that was brewing when I started performing. This is the "STUFF" That made up ROCK & ROLL... The Confection of sounds, that when mixed together, gives one the feeling of those good old rockin times, when Rock & Roll was new and just plain fun! I wrote all of the songs and each has its own story to tell - from the time I was with Bill Haley's comets in the 1960s and 1970s to JK ROCKETS today.
I Hope these songs will be as much fun to hear as they were to record.
Then "Rite Mix has a wide variety of styles, SO PLEASE ROCK...ROLL...DANCE...AND ENJOY!
... Johnny Kay
