JL Cotter
Singer/Songwriter
JL Cotter, age 23, from Long Island, elegantly unites the classic soul of yesterday with hip-hop and R&B of today. JL incorporates his influences of past and present with his personal situations and original ideas of love. He perfects his craft by writing and singing most of his own music which bring mind blowing, home hitting songs of this century. JL comes from a musical family where music was the way of life. Starting with his great grandfather, James Reese Europe who was the first African American Jazz artist to play at Carnegie Hall. To his father, Robert Cotter who played with Nile Rogers and the late Bernard Edwards of the Big Apple Band, later known as Chic. He first started recording at the age of 15 and by then he knew his love for music was his future. JL's passion and drive is to be the best and spending extensive amount of his time in the studio reflects it with recording over 30 songs. He has worked with major talent in production like, Troy Oliver's "Chocolate Factory" producer Reggie Hamlet, House of Tre and Swizz Beats, just to name a few. JL collaborates with great writers like Andre Deyo, "Jenny From the Block", "I'm Glad" (J.Lo), and "Cheddar Bring" (Ginuwine), as well as Teron Beal "Heaven Can't Wait" (Michael Jackson), and "Why You Gotta Look So Good?" (Mya). He has performed on BET's "106 & Park". JL has provided the vocals for "A Shining Star" as a tribute to DJ Threat. He is featured on the remix of "Do Re Me" with LL Cool J, Scarface and J Records recording artist and Def Squad CEO Eric Sermon. JL has also provided background vocals for "Lil G" better known as the lead vocalist in the hit group Silk, during a performance at BB King's in NYC. He has performed at Village Underground and at Soul Café where he received a standing ovation for his rendition of Maxwell's "A Woman Worth". Be on the look out for R& B's next shining star.
