notes
JLE, also known as Jennifer Louise Edison, is a 22 year old singer/songwriter from Detroit, Michigan who recently began her venture into the world of R&B music with her project entitled "That's Me". Her debut album consists of songs all written by herself and has reviewers saying that her "voice courts the elements of R&B, hip-hop and rock melody to come up with a debut album that you can tell aspires to reach the massive ear reach of Michael Jackson land. - Tamara Harris, Manhunt.com".
Her debut album entitled "That's Me" is the first project on board her independent label The Song of Songs Records Inc. This project has currently been pre-released online exclusively, at online retailers such as Amazon.com, Cdbaby.com, JLEMUSIC.com and more. The album from start to finish was written by JLE, who believes writing to be an essential part of her artistry. "In all of my songs I aspire to convey a message to my listener. I like to write about everyday life as well as the things people don't necessarily think about and in ways maybe they don't think about on a day to day basis." This album seeks to take its listener through different emotions and maybe even down memory lane as the lyrics tend to relate to life situations. The album has an old school feel with a very modern flare, that reaches deep into the smoother side of R&B and hip hop.
JLE began singing at a young age and comes from a singing family from which her great aunt, Florence Ballard, sang with The Supremes. She is just one of the three members of the family musical team called True Inspiration Productions, which consists of JLE, who adds her singing and writing talent, her brother Charles J Edison, and father Raymond Edison, who are the brains behind the music. With over 50 years of experience as musicians combined, Raymond and Charles add an uncommon musical element to the project that allows it to stand on its own. Tracks from "That's Me" have received recognition on band websites and is finding its way to college, commercial and internet radio. The first and current project entitled "That's Me" is just the start for True Inspirations Productions and The Song of Songs Records as plans for this project, label and production team aspire to reach higher than one would expect.

Beautiful voice, good writing, not beginner sounding.
author: BOSTONActually a surprising find. Professional and experienced sounding songwriting mixed with a beautiful voice and believable emotion. Even the vocal arrangments and music tracks are top-40 quality. Alternatively, the tracks are in similar keys and ballad tempo is the norm, minus Not This Time, which appears to be an out of place Brandy/Rodney Jerkins attempt. Regardless, this album scores an 8.5 out of ten. Her website offers a notable image gallery and some full length versions of her music. If she keeps up like this (and works on the ballad/uptempo mix), there's no reason why her next album, or reassemble of this one, won't be seen on the charts rivaling the big girls. This is a worthwhile purchase of music from an artist with a bright future.
Real Music
author: Angel DSince day 1 of receiving JLE: That's me, I have burned this CD up! I love all the songs on JLE. She has an amazing voice and style of music. With her voice she tells the story of each song as she sings them. I truly felt and heard every story told by the songs. Just Wonderful. My favorites on the whole CD are 'I Love You' 'Crying Out' 'Beauty' and 'Happy Days'. 'I Love You' says a lot and it has more meaning to it than what some may believe. Play this for your significant other and they would melt. 'Crying Out'...just made me want to cry. The guitar in 'Crying Out' is the killer in it, just off the chain! 'Beauty'...Beautiful, 'nuff said there. And 'Happy Days' is a great tune to chill off of. The CD is Incredible...

JLE's voice courts the elements of R & B, hip-hop and rock melody to come up wit
author: Manhunt.com[by Tamara Harris] Each year a new singer from Motown's song garden makes the foliage turn another unique color. This year Jennifer L Edison (JLE) bloomed her first album called That's Me for the independent imprint Song of Songs. From the first minutes of "Tommorrow's Joy" JLE's trail of pensive left brain doodling flows into an independent pop day lorded over by Brian McKnight, Brandy and Des'ree. Her notes blow like the leaves of a willow grounded in bronze pop earth. Edison's voice courts the elements of R & B, hip-hop and rock melody to come up with a debut album that you can tell aspires to reach the massive ear reach of Michael Jackson land. That's Me is their first project and Edison is at the helm. Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Brandy and others line her memory with admiration and you can hear her poring through them in blushy tracks that bare the smoother side of urban music. That's Me plays itself out in a semi- acoustic aesthetic that only gets polished up when she's pulling hip-hop beats in "Not This Time" a la Ashanti. "Crying Out" solos a rock guitar that emanates stadium space by the airy production. The youthfulness of groups like B2K and an earlier Destiny's Child are here too but JLE isn't boasting stuff for teens bounce to. Freshness is always a promoter of curiosity and linked to people under 25 however, the lyrics she sings are about a conscious party of self awareness: -When the rain starts falling and the wind starts blowing And it keeps on going and keeps on growing And the sun stops shining And the water's steady rising Coming higher and higher You gotta take some time to analyze your life -"Analyze Your Life". Words like flowers in pretty realist paintings give up an idea usually reserved for older audiences in typical marketing schemes. And when most urban music is thought of for its ability to provoke an inner search, it is usually connected to the strength to outgrow the bad battles of the street. The great niece of late Supremes founder and singer Florence Ballard lays her music out with a balance that levels any rough play and maintains scrutiny of the self. Heightening emotion of the type heard in "Beauty's" soft gaze summarizes Edison's overall approach; refined R & B with pop projections that stretches into rock.
