"Play A Little Prayer" is the latest CD from Montreal based composer, keyboardist and singer Joshua Lebofsky. As the title implies it is a collection of ten songs based on the theme of prayers. But don't expect solemn oaths and Amen choruses. It is a rich blend of world music influences, African and Oriental percussion, jazz harmony, some great multilingual singing, deep grooves and some killer soloing from some of Montreal's finest musicians.
Sources include North and West Africa, Native American, Judeo-Christian, both sacred and secular influences.

  • Inspirational!

Thank You Joshua for your talents. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to 'Play a little Prayer' and couldn't wait for my partner to listen to it as well. We both agree you are a refreshing addition to the music industry, and that yes, you deserved winning the prize for "The Briss" because it's a fantastic song. I really enjoy the Pat Metheny-insprired arrangements in particular tracks, cos I just love Pat's music. The mix of World Beat with Jazz and Gospel/Blues put chills on my arms. Tracks 2 and 8 are beautiful and inspired me to purchase other music of the same style recently. Track 1 attracted me because of the way it sort of ends at one point, but comes back again. Joshua has a raspy singing voice, and well, I think it's sexy in a way too, cos I appreciate non-synthesized, natural and non-commercial vocal arrangements. All the lyrics, vocals (lead and backround) are inspirational and make me so happy and at peace when I play the CD. I met Joshua at Del Canale - Bistro/Bar/Terrace in Montreal at the beginning of the month, and he autographed my CD. Joshua's drummer, Tony Albino just happens to be the husband of Del Canale owner (Patricia Vetter). Joshua is very talented and deserves much recognition. Can't wait to buy & listen to his future release/s. Art/Design Concept is subtle, simple yet attractive. I like the use of the earth-tones while using a cool, off-set font for the title. The 4-page booklet features song credits and special thanks from the artist. On the disc, the cover art is repeated and layered with track titles and an alternate version of the album title in black text. Track lengths are long, which I appreciate, cos sometimes a song can end far too soon, making an album seem rushed and commercial. But you won't find any of that on 'Play a Little Prayer'. Works of art such as the songs on this CD can't be rushed and are certainly feel-good creations from the heart. Joshua most definitely feels his music and has what it takes to be a successful musician/songwriter. I highly recommend 'Play a Little Prayer' to my family & friends & to all whom seek something unique and inspirational in every way.

  • A work revealing a great variety of sources, with a distinctive original style.

This CD has depth, it is spiritual without any specific reference to a religion. It shows a great musical culture, brings us into different worlds. The more I listen to this CD, the more I like it.

  • Wonderful.

Mark my words. Josh Lebofsky will gain the recognition that he richly deserves for this work. "Redemption Song" is an anthem, and Bob Marley would be proud of Lebofsky's rendition.

  • Inspiring CD, great musicianship

Great music, you're inspiring me to put out my own album. This CD needs to get out to the masses...soon. Keep pushing. I'm watching you!
