The Juan L. Sánchez Ensemble
Founded in 1997, The Juan L. Sánchez Ensemble features the verse and passionate voice of Juan L. Sánchez, a charismatic modern-day troubadour who has transcended his Spanish roots to create a unique musical universe: listen to Arabic and Sephardic melodies powered by the bold virtuosity of Paul Contos on flutes and saxophones. Explore the sensual rhythm of bossa novas and rumbas carried by Noe Hinojosa on Latin percussion and Steve Uccello on stand-up bass and guitarrón, and admire the undaunted genius of Dayan Kai on piano, mandolin, zampoña, guitar, accordion and clarinet, among many other instruments.
The music of the Juan L. Sánchez Ensemble is rooted in the Nueva Canción, (Spanish/Latin American New Folk) but incorporates rhythmic and melodic nuances that can be traced to contemporary urban Jazz, Flamenco fusion and Middle-Eastern music. This kaleidoscope of musical genres gives life to the impassioned word of Juan L. Sánchez, and that of 20th Century Spanish and Latin American poets, such as Lorca, Neruda, and Miguel Hernández.

Colorful music, sensitive, poetic lyrics, great performances by all. Buy it!
author: Scott Wright
This is great, colorful Spanish music strongly flavored by Middle Eastern, Latin American and jazz music. The lyrics are sensitive and poetic. All the performers are outstanding. It only gets better with repeated listenings. If you beleive in Reverence for Life and enjoy music that reaches across borders and goes straight to the heart, this is your kind of music.
