Album Notes

This project is a culmination of many years
of listening to and absorbing the work of my mentors. I grew up listening to folk and bluegrass
music, so I will never forget the day I
was asked, "have you ever heard John Coltrane?"
I knew the name, but I had never heard his music. The moment that needle touched the groove of the record and my ears were filled
with "Naima," my journey into the world of
jazz began.This album is dedicated to all my teachers
who will always continue to inspire me;
Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, George Garzone, Michael Brecker, Pete Christlieb, Zoot Sims, George Russell, John McNeil, Dick Grove, and Doc Sutherland. Also, my gratitude to the great band that helped me with this endeavor-Lee, Chris and Alan.

This is a great CD! The musicians really listen to each other and there is strong rhythmic interplay. There's a nice mix of musical feelings and grooves - uptempo funk and swing (Tenor Madness, Oliloqui Valley) plus some darker, introspective moments (Cost of Living, Inger). Highly recommended!!!
