Picture yourself on Daytona Beach, 1985:  A cooler full of Buds, the smell of Marlboros drifting by and a beach full of scantily clad babes.  Retribution, a new CD release by JMB, blasting away on the car stereo would be a perfect compliment to this scenario.  This self-produced album is well crafted and contemporary sounding.  The music, however, has the straight-ahead rock performance reminiscent of the 70’s and 80’s.  Even though the songs are original, there is a familiarity about them that makes them as comfortable as you old Zeppelin t-shirt.
Lead vocalist Jay Moore’s hard-edged vocals cut through the mix to create strong emotional impact, especially when he hits and holds the high notes. Michael Rubadue’s lead guitar solos are flashy and tasteful all at the same time and his rhythm guitar and drums combine with bassist Barry Moore to create the necessary solid rhythm section backdrop required by this style of music.  Barry’s background singing adds harmonic interest and fullness and Michael’s occasional keyboards contribute variety and texture to the recording.
Sonically, the recording is a nice balance between heavy and classic.  The drums are punchy and clear without overpowering the mix.  The electric guitars have that sweet harmonic distortion that is warm and pleasing to the ear.  The acoustic is jangly and full.  The keyboard sounds are a little artificial for my taste, but work fine in this context. An obvious attention to detail went into the recording process.
The album kicks off with an energetic rocker called “How’s Life After Love.”  This bouncy tune sets the stage for what’s to come.  The second tune is a little slower but still in the same vein.  The third song, “You Want To” takes a left turn with a sparse bar roomy sounding piano and simple drums.  The album continues on with a mix of rock styles and an occasional slow tune thrown in.  All in all, there is enough variety in the writing and performance to keep things interesting throughout the 12 listed songs and 2 bonus tracks.
If you are looking for an innovative new style of music, this album may not fit the bill. On the other hand if you crave a new album with a classic sound, this one is right on target.  I’m looking forward to hearing more from JMB in the future.

I saw these guys play a show on the Ohio River and wow they rocked the place they blew everyone away there was no one on that bill that compared, the singer was an animal guttural screams!

That being said I didn’t see or hear anything about them until I saw something about this album and this site on Facebook and thought I knew that name, at first I thought it’s about time!

After hearing this album my expectations were totally blown away & got more than what I had expected, finally someone who truly still rock.
The song 1st How’s Life after love is a straight ahead rocker and someone knew a dirty girl didn’t they, 2nd track Choose Your Road which I didn’t expect was a slow driving heavy number touching a bit political arena I thought, the bassist takes you along with them for a smooth ride, but the guitar was phenomenal you felt what he was saying and the point he was making & when the singer says I am a man you believe it, then that scream, the 3rd song You want to, went in another unexpected direction almost dreamy it made me want some wine and hang with my buddies very nice, strange but nice. Track 4 blame me had like a southern rock type feel to it another deep song that makes you understand who these guys are; track 5 Empty Street man who hasn’t been there they made me feel like I lived there, the guitar was bluesy and cool, it was great how they traded off vocals here, track 6 Slow Down this song is a hit it’s dark but touching I hope it hits for them, track 7 Cursed, again touching a bit on the political side it sounds very different than the rest of the album but it works, 8 I Won’t Blame This Love, it sounds like someone has had enough, cool changes awesome guitar tone, 9 Don’t want to Hear, sounds very aggressive, great punch great rock song, heavy they can be mean, 10 I don’t Know, well it’s a ballad which I am not much of a ballad guy but this song could be a hit I picture girls going crazy for this, 11 Part Of me another ballad but a different approach it takes you in a really bluesy place musically cool guitar parts in the breaks the song makes me feel lonely, track 12 Hold On to your dream what a closer it definitely makes you feel good and you rock at the same time, then there are two songs not listed which came as a surprise, a ballad which is tender ass it is sad, very touching not like the other two they touch all bases on this album, the last track that dirty girl is back she’s scary, a great heavy song I’m glad there were to hidden songs great surprise & Bonus a great album if you love Rock.
